By now all most all news papers have published this information. According to those reports, Swiss Bank association in 2006 announced or published a report on its deposits.

Indians have 1456 billion dollars. Russia, china and all of the others together do not match Indian deposits. Indian govt can easily check how much of this is declared using Indian Income tax receipts. The answer is likley to be not much. One can assume that almost all of it is undeclared money or Black money.

That is nearly 1.5 trillion dollars. More than Indian GDP (1 T $).

Why now?

Never before the swiss bank secrecy was so vulnerable. For the first time, US and other major nations are pushing swiss to relax just because they may have 100 Billion $ non taxed money in those banks. Swiss banks are vulnerable now as never before.

So the demand for aggressive pursual of black money is a sensible option.

If India gets the money back, it probaly would be in the form of some forgive scheme. Govt may issue bonds that can be bought using tis money with some Tax + small penalty.

BJP and CPM are pushing for following up. Congress is reluctant. Some suspect because some of its own leaders have millions , if not, billions of dollars in swiss banks.

The question: What will you do if India can bring some or all of this money back to money and Govt gets about 100 to 200 billions as taxes in the first installement of this money return.

Would you put it in Infra structure? Or in welfare schemes? Or in education? Or in defence?
