Work out before you want to go to be for like an hour. take a shower. Works for me and I do have insomia normally.

I have insomnia attacks from time to time. What I do is just lie in bed counting backwards from 300 to 1. Don't try too hard to get to sleep. Just relax and lie down in bed quietly counting.

go to sleep early, take a short walk before sleep, read some book (don't watch too much TV or open computer for a long periods during the day). if that did not work try to go into hot shower and then return to cooler room and sleep. if even that did not work, skip one night and don't sleep during day and then try to sleep following night.

I've just started listening to a hypnotherapy cd for insomnia before my disrupted sleep patterns get too set. Its by an english guy paul mckenna but i'm sure you can find somebody good. Do it now for yr sanity. sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture under some regimes!!

I tried pretty much everything when my insomnia started and nothing worked. I couldn't even nap during the day because my brain just would not stop thinking about everything. I would lie down tired and relax but never fall asleep. I started feeling like I couldn't. Finally the doc put me on ambien and literally I slept better than I have in ages. I managed to go without it for a year but find myself needing it again. The ideal way to use it would be to use it until you can get your body on a regular schedule again. I am unfortunately a diagnosed chronic insomniac and for the most part cannot sleep without it now.

That's the problem with prescription drugs, you start and then you can't get off them, especially ambien. If you haven't tried a Chinese Herb formula you don't know what your missing. Chinese herbs are not addictive and they can really relax your mind and body. You'll find you won't be ruminating all night long. The constant chatter in your head is what keeps you awake. When you calm the mind, if the body is tired you will instantly go to sleep. Good luck.

I've been in the same situation and can honestly relate. It's a real drag. You need to calm your mind so your body will naturally fall asleep. I recommend Chinese herbs. I've never seen anything work as well. I might be repeating myself here.. but prescriptions are dangerous because it's easy to get hooked on them and then you'll never get to sleep without them. Chinese herbs have no side effects and even after a month of using them you can easily stop if you feel their no longer needed. Insomnia can cause depression, so do try to actively make a change in what your doing. Otherwise pattens get set that get harder to break. The more you don't sleep the more your setting patterns. Change the cycle, try something new. Whether it's herbs, diet, exercise or bed time habits, don't get into a rut as an insomniac. It's a very destructive habit. Sleep is vital for our well being.

Try anise tea, close your eyes and thought about what you like to do. you'll slept God willing.

5 HTP (run it by a Dr first though) can help. There is also a bitter cherry extract that's supposed to contain high levels of naturally occurring melatonin.

1st thing quit stressing! It won't help u find a job any faster.
2nd get on your knees before you go to bed every night and pray this:
Dear lord I'm kinda stressin here. Still don't have a job yet, then say (most important) I know ya got my back. I'm gonna give my stress to you because I know ya have my back, then say in christ name amen

Then you take a 5mg melatonin and hit the hay! Repeat every night ya might even try saying the prayer whenever you start to get that paniky shaky feeling. That's what I did when I almost lost my house. Some people say they live 1 day at a time,or paycheck to paycheck. I live prayer to prayer sometimes, and I'm still here.
