The intel i7 model is the successor to the intel core 2 family with quad -core processors. Whith the introduction of Hyper-threading technology each the of four cores can proces up to two threads simultaneously, so the pocessor appears to the os as eight CPUs. "Turbo boost"

i7 costly
The high-end Core i7-965 = £700 exc VAT,
slower, multiplier-locked i7-940 = £400.

You can overclock the 940 easily enough. Worked like a charm on my first try and I'm completely new at this overclocking thing. With some tweaking I guess I could have gotten it running at 4Ghz but since I have no interest in such high speeds and the power consumption that goes with it, I have it running stable at 3.6Ghz now. Does it's job like it's supposed to and should prove it's money worth when I start doing some video editing again.
