I have just started having problems when clicking on "comments" in my Blogspot blog when using an Internet Explorer browser. I get the error message "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site.........operation aborted. Then click on OK and I get a web page with the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page"

This happens if I am not logged into Blogger only.

I tried with Firefox and didn't get this problem.

I am worried that people visiting that don't log into Blogger cannot leave comments.

Does anyone else have the same problem? Is there any way to fix it?

My blog address is ramblingrosejewellery.blogspot.com/

Thanks

Yes, there is a simple way to fix it.

Don't use Internet Explorer or any other browser that's not W3C compliant.

I wish it was that simple lol. The majority of people visiting my blog use Internet Explorer.

The only change I made to my blog today was to add the Blogcatalog recent viewers widget so that I could become a member of Blogcatalog. I would like to try removing the widget, but I need the alternative Blogcatalog code without widgets to put into my HTML and see if this fixes it....but I don't know where to get that code that came up when I first signed up here....any ideas?

All fixed, I removed the widget and have added the code to my blog HTML. The comments are working properly again :o)

You should always save your layout before you start changing it! Nobody ever does, but it's good to pass good advice on to other people.

If you did not have a custom layout, but if you used a default layout, the code for that layout should still be there under Blogger's layouts.

      Glad you got it fixed!

Thanks for the advice Flaming. I must admit that I don't save my settings often enough. I did at the very start of setting my blog up. I would be in a mess if I had to recover my blog.....going to save it right now!

@ RamblingRose. Good for you. However, this problem continues. It has been around for a month or so. It only happens with IE and unfortunately IE is the standard browser in many companies. So, changing to Firefox is not always an option.

"We are still working on resolving this bug.... We will update this post when a fix has been made..." Blogger's latest update on this issue was on May 26, 2009.

The known workarounds are to remove the Following gadget, change the comment form to "Full page" (or "Popup"), or remove some other third party scripts that don't operate properly.

I refuse to use IE. Opera, yes. Google Chrome, yes. Firefox, yes. IE? Never!

Thanks for the info Kire, I will wait until they have fixed the bug before trying again as I don't want to change the setup that I have for comments.

I'd throw in a couple of other Browsers.

Save all your IE info, export it

    Uninstall the browser and reinstall

I get a lot of problems with IE, but we use it at work and always have to test with it

The big issues are with IE6. Web developers loathe and despise it because it's not WC3 compliant. The stats show that it's down to 14.5% users now. www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

I have the same problem...but not just with Blogger comments. The problem pops up every now and then in different places.

I'm hoping the new version of IE will solve the problem.

@RamblingRose. I had to change the comment form. You don't need to do that. Your blog loads very fine on my IE8.

I had to uninstall IE8 because it was causing me trouble all over the place. IE7 is more stable but doesn't let me into my Blogger blogs. I have to use Firefox to do that, although it is an agony to copy and past my blog entries (I always write them in Word) and then delete from 5 to 15 lines of code that FF doesn't like (but Blogger always ignored when I was using IE).

I have the latest version of FF and it is VERY unstable. It crashes regularly, and arbitrarily decides it doesn't like certain websites and just refuses to load them (yesterday it was gmail...I had to open gmail in IE in order to use it). I HATE Firefox but without it, I am unable to blog because of this IE problem.

Microsoft states in their knowledgebase article: "This behavior is by design.."

    The same article claims:
"The easiest way for you to fix the problem is to upgrade to Internet Explorer 8. This problem no longer occurs in Internet Explorer 8".

As we all know by now, this "Operation Aborted" message occurs very often in IE 8.

So, why do Microsoft have to abort webpages while all the other browsers cope with this and allow the user to visit the website?
    1. SweetViolet
It occurs in IE8, no matter what MS says.

In case you don't know (I know someone who works in MicroSoft and got this from her) IE8 is actually unlabelled Beta. So if you are having problems with it, you know why. I just spent a bloody fortune for an IT pro to come out to my house and troubleshoot my network and system, so I know the problem is NOT my computer. In fact, when she uninstalled IE8 and reinstalled IE7, much of my internet problems just disappeared. This problem, however, could not be fixed without going to FireFox as the browser, which crashes a couple of times a day.

This is the reason that I have yet updated my blogs in blogspot...
    1. SweetViolet
Install FireFox and use it to access Blospot blogs, including your own blog. Use Explorer for everything else.

I was unable to use cut-and-paste while posting to my Blogger blog on Internet Explorer and was advised to switch to Firefox. That has solved the problem for now.
    1. SweetViolet
Try pasting into the "edit HTML" window, then switch to "compose" window for everything else.

      Solved the problems for me.

Hmmm... this is illuminating to say the least. People have been having real problems leaving comments on my blog lately, and this may just be why. Oh well, I was in the process of migrating my blog to Wordpress anyways...
