Isn't it amazing

The Sports Journalists' Association reports that the International Olympic Committee has issued a four-page guide that acknowledges "the realities of 21st century communications"and allows athlete blogs at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. The rules provide a range of restrictions including that there can be no sound, video, photographs of Olympic action or medal ceremonies, no interviews or news about other athletes, and no use of the Olympic marks.

So what's left? A journal style blog? Can these athlete's blogs be written by third parties, i.e. agents and publicists?

Sounds like an awful lot of restrictions if you ask me.

In the days before audio, video, etc. there were bloggers. All Olympic games, regardless of which countries they are situate feature very lucrative media contracts. The limitations are nothing more than an attempt to insure that the copyrights, trademarks and contracts for media coverage that IOC has entered with the big media players aren't violated. The whole Olympic extravaganza for the rich and famous will put us British Colombians into debt for at least 30 years.
