I have a question. Is America going in the right direction or the wrong direction.I live in the state of Maryland.I can tell you my state is going in the wrong direction. Our governor Martin O'Malley raised taxes on the people of Maryland and small businesses causing those businesses to flee to Delaware and neighboring Pennsylvania.

Well it is better direction than the previous administration. Taxes are a bane no matter which century or which country, but the bottom line is if people want good roads, bridges, infrastructure, police force, etc etc, it has to be paid for. That means we need to make sure that is where the money is going and not on some bridge to nowhere.

Unfortunately it is not "good" highways we're paying for but rather the kind that no one wants (not a dime for city freeways), and we're kicking down our industry with a Cap-and-Trade scheme that most insiders don't think will help the environment
(moves even more to China where regulations are even scantier, and the combination of high government deficits and bad policy may require that wild lands and parks be sold to developers to pay off our debt, sending us straight to Eco-Gehanna and reducing the CO2 capacity of the planet, which will do far more harm to both CO2 levels AND natural habitats then any gain in Clean Energy could possibly make up for, especially since many of those wild lands are near cities, and removing city people from wild lands will create a cultural attitude of environment = null point that can probably never be rectified.)
See, Bush made some mistakes, but Obama's just a sadistic creep who is easilly smart enough to see the problem with all this nonsense but wants to shred apart the world's wealthiest, most developed nation for sport. It's the difference between killing somebody by accident on the freeway and "Predator." -
Sadistic creep. Hmmm. I think that's taking it too far. Obama is by all accounts a man of integrity and intelligence. He truly wants what is best for this country. You can disagree with his policies, but accusing the president of maliciously destroying this country is partisanship at it's worst. I could not stand Bush and hated everything he stood for, but never once did I question that he was doing what he believed was right. I thought he was ill-advised and misguided, but I never thought he had ill intent.
As for shredding apart the world's wealthiest nation, Bush and the Republican congress did a pretty good job of that and that is why, the GOP is in such a state of utter disarray now.

This country is going in a far better direction than it was in the previous administration (I agree with jafabrit). I also agree that taxes are a necessary evil--but I AM against wasteful spending and I think our government does too much of that.
I will say that it is refreshing having a smart and thoughtful president--and as a bonus, who can pronounce nuCLEar correcting (if I had to hear Palin taking over for Bush with nuCUlar for 4 more years, I think I would have had to move to Canada!). -
Hehe always the dissenter... I think it is going in the wrong direction as far as protecting itself and taking care of it's own. Example? With the new military health cuts, soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are leaving the service in record numbers. Enlistment is down and retention is way down. AWOLs are up.
Economy is worse. Jobs are worse. Unemployment is higher. If John Q. Public is doing well, that's great, but it does not seem that way around here.-
I think a lot of these things are remnants of the previous administration. The military retention problems I remember reading about during the last presidency.
It takes time to turn things around, especially as it was tumbling downhill for 8 years without stop.
And, I don't just blame Bush. I blame Congress too and an American public that was asleep. -
this is true to an extent. Though the one good thing about Bush was military pay raises and free healthcare. Part of that wasteful spending Obama's plan cut was free military healthcare (or tricare prime). I have discovered this first hand, this differences between presidents and their healthcare plans is staggering. Under Bush prenatal and everything was free, under Obama I had to drop a lot of cash. I don't even want to imagine what chemo costs are now, or mental health services. Tis a shame. If it weren't for his military policies, I wouldn't mind him

I think that there is going to be a period of "ugly" before things get better, but I think compared to past administrations (namely...Bush) we have a lot better tools and plans being made or soon to be made available to us to better ourselves. I don't imagine running a country is easy, or a state for that matter. I'm from California, and if I can be optomistic ANYONE CAN!!
-
Yea,it is very, very, ugly right now,but guess who I just got a call from.....Senator Davis, I'm fixing to get to DC and it ain't gonna be pretty! I'm fed the hell up!!! I'm not scared to say so either. Hell if the people in Iran can have the u kno what to protest...then I'm not scared of any politicians....I'm gonna tell em' what needs to be done
