Is Blogging Fun or is it a Job?

I really enjoy blogging. Then sometimes it feels like a job. Perhaps we are entering a slow period, but sometimes the words and information flow. What do you think and feel on this subject?

It's all about your approach. If you think it's fun, then it's fun. if you treat it as a job, then it's work.
-
Working out? It can be fun. Sometimes, like last night, I had a great time running on the treadmill because I made it fun and did silly things like doing my hip-hop walk or my model walk during my walk breaks and singing loudly when i was running. Other times it's hard though and seems like work...it depends on your state of mind.

Mine is for fun but it is just me cooking for my lady so sometimes it feels like a chore but I do enjoy it most of the time.
-
Blogging is not a job for me but at the same time I have to show up and produce results, results that work. Anyway, I read this quote today by
Confucius that states if we “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” -

I find it is subjective and rather an art. Sometimes it is best to forge ahead writing, painting, cooking, whatever because even though you may not be in the mood something interesting and valuable could come out of the time and effort you invest.
-
In my case it's pure fun. I'm not dependent on it for a living; there are no deadlines, no hours I have to clock in or out. I do it when I feel like, and when I don't feel like I can just blow it off.

Well, I started blogging when I lost my full time job. And, I blog about my unemployment. So, I guess for me, it's work and "fun"? It's actually the best way for me to focus and accomplish something (other than job hunting) each day!
I've enjoyed it a lot though, it's become therapeutic for me! -
It is fun. But when blogging for a long period, you will found that it slowly turn to become as a part of your work. Some of my friend comment that sometimes blogging is boring and time consuming.... I believe they can't find any fun on this. Something like hobbies, you like the game, you will find lot of fun.

As an example, a lot of work went into preparing today's luncheon. But I enjoyed it. Come on over to SKDD site should you wish. It took hours to prepare, bake, photograph, upload and write, but it was rewarding.

I love it! There are times I'm tired and wish I didn't have to adhere to the schedule I set for myself.
But in terms of creativity, it's forced me to write regularly and as a result, I've surprised myself with some posts. I love that.
And the fact that folks take the time to read, or get a laugh, or learn something-- that, to me, is incredibly rewarding.-
Well, to have something creative actually improve someone's day-- that's really the best compliment you could hope for.
I write marketing web sites and ads for businesses for my dayjob. But typically we don't get the kind of feedback that's possible through blogging. We only hear the complaints when something isn't what they'd envisioned. So blogging offers a wonderful balance to that.

its a lot of fun for me, particularly because my traffic is steadily growing. but sometimes it can become quite the chore and also bloggers block is one of those low blogging moments
-
TSR, great reply. You get a balance in your responses that are most enlightening.Creativity is another important aspect of blogging. Then helping people is a fantastic form of self-esteem. Blogging makes me happy, to create and assist others and to receive constructive feedback. Thank you.

It is for fun! Definitely..If you feel like it is a job then better take a serious job! You cannot make for a living by blogging if you are just a starter but if you aim to be successful perhaps try to make it for fun! Happy blogging!
-
No its job.....Common don't lie.....Saying it for fun and keeping loads of ads in page shows it......Why would you join blogcatalog if it was just for fun???????????????????????
-
Actually, there are plenty of good reasons to join a place like BlogCatalog without it being a means to get advertising clicks.
Myself, I don't run ads on either of my blogs-- I blog because I love to write and joining BC was a great way to get readers.
I stick around here because of the conversations, and because I learn things I wouldn't have known about the technical aspect of blogging.
I know a lot of folks here who actually don't run ads.

It's both to me....but you can work at your own pace...a few hours per day or sometimes 20 hours per day like me! Depends on far high you want to climb and how many people you want to help become successful!

It is definetely fun for me. My blog is mainly about photography so if I get stuck I just grab my camera and drive around or even better, walk around the yard. It is easy for me to become inspired.

It is work because I want to share something with the world. it is fun because I take pleasure with a go as you like mood.
-
Yes it does control that too....you are what you think about 24/7....if your mood turns bad...what you have to do is think of something good right away then you're back on track.....it's the secret of success! If you you're thinking negatively... negative things happen to you....think positive thoughts and your mood stays positive!
-
it's a mix of both... Producing content is the work part while networking and doing SEO to get your posts searched is the fun part.

Mainly, I just love to write. Blogging has given me an outlet I really haven't had til now.
In addition, I love the challenge of find life lessons in weird places and communicating them in a fun way.
And this may come off totally wrong, but I also really like reading what I write. Sometimes when I'm feeling a little stressed or down or whatever, I go back through my archives and it always makes me smile.
-
For myself, and surely many others, there are elements of both. You work hard and dedicate time and other resources to achieve a goal, whatever that may be.
In blogging, be it garnering readership or building traffic for clientelle (or both), it's the same thing. You just have to maintain your focus on what got you started in the first place.
Do I enjoy blogging? Absolutely. Do I ever feel like it's become too much work? On many occasions. However, I'd still keep doing most of what I do now as a hobby, including maintaining a blog, even if I didn't expect to make any money or get exposure out of it. -
There are times I feel I have to "make time" to update my blog, but then i also firmly believe in not forcing my writing - so while I would like to write something new five times a week, I don't want to post something that won't be entertaining so if I have to miss a few days until I get inspired, so be it.
-
I blog for fun so if I am not feeling like posting on a certain day, then I don't. There is no money to be made anyway.

Blogging is fun for me, but it's serious fun. I really enjoy it and the contacts and reactions I get, but it fulfills a need - a need to express myself and my believes in writing. Something I used to do as a teenager for school magazines and such - then lost for many many years.
Secondly - but as important - it's a channel to show my creative works. To be able to combine these two in my blog is even more fulfilling.
Thirdly - equally important - I learn from it in many ways. It's an exercise in writing as such and on top for me in a foreign language. And positive reactions and support for what I do help making me feel strong.
I have ads on my blog and maybe it also helps selling my creations, but all that is just pocket money and I have no dreams of changing it.
In short I enjoy the doing it but it really does add to my personal as well as my professional success as at work I experience co-workers and managers see me as a more interesting and self-confident person and not just an administrative genious. -
I enjoy blogging and think it's fun, but I'd like it to be a job. I mean, I'd like it to be the thing I get paid to do full-time and not just a hobby.
