    Whether a blog is a hobby or not depends on whether you want to make money with it or not. If you don't intend to make money with it, or don't need to, it is a hobby. If you depend on making money with it, it is a job. (It might be a job you enjoy like a hobby, but the income factor bumps it into a job.)

    It's kind of a hobby, I guess--although I am blogging to publicize the book I am writing, which is something I am doing professionally.

    The disappointment, for some, is that they are putting a lot of labor into a product for which they are not getting a very good price. Kudos to Melindaville - for using hers to launch her book. Good luck. You gain a lateral value for it that way while you feel out the audience for what they are interested in reading (and willing to pay to read).

    For myself, it's just a hobby and that's a good thing. If it were a job, I would have been canned a month ago as I've had nothing to write about...

      I believe it depends on what you want your blog to accomplish for you. In my case I am a partner and owner of a Redesign and Home Staging Service and blogging helps promote my business. Blogging also helps with tips and ideas on interior design and redesign.
