Today my country ( India ) won an ODI match against Sri Lanka and we need only one more win to go to the 2nd spot in the ICC world top team rankings. Cricket is a world famous game, but completely infamous in the United States. Football ( the American football or rugby ), basket ball and baseball are the top games. This's what methinks. Is cricket famous too? Are you a cricket fan? why? why not?

Damn.. We Amaricans don't understand it

We Americans are too much a bunch of North American snobby-poos to even think about cricket. We have to play baseball with all the beer and pork hot dogs stuffed down our red white and blue gullets.

I have no clue what cricket is. I love baseball though. I think Jimney Cricket is the most awesome cricket in the world but I don't think that counts.

I had to learn all about cricket when I visited NZ for three weeks around Y2K. Interesting, I s'pose. I'm just not a big sports fan, regardless, I guess.

I'll never understand how countries that love cricket can throw stones at Americans for liking baseball. They're both deathly dull, for heaven's sake! At least the rules for baseball are pretty straight-forward. But, no, cricket is not widely followed or understood in the US.

Nope. But Let's Go Baseball! Can't wait for the season to start!

Cricket is a game widely played in the U.S. by every Indian community.

A game that takes days to finish.. in a country where waiting 2 minutes for food is outrageous... lol

    Not bloody likely mate.

      Funny you should say that

I was sorting out an ebay purchase and said to the American seller that they should send the parcel sea mail. I wasn't in a hurry and didn't want to pay exorbitant air mail prices. The ebay seller didn't believe me and said that no American would tolerate a 3 week delay. I said, as patiently as possible, that I am Australian. We wait 5 days to find out the result of a cricket match.

Of course I am a passionate cricket supporter, and will sit up ALL night next to the radio, listening to a ball-by-ball description coming from the UK, South Africa or the West Indies.

days? dude i think you're still unaware of this game. it's the test matches that take 5 days. now ODI- one day international takes 7 hours and T20 takes only 3 hours! ... ... so food and waiting eh?
    1. csiunatc
i knew that they created the short games, but even without those. 7 hours is just too much for this culture i think.

5 days for a single game... umm. yeah.
    2. Anok
Yeah, if it exceeds 2 TV timeslots it's pretty much not going to happen.

Unless it's Lord of the Rings or something

Five days to finish one game? Yeah that's way too long for us silly Americans. That's why Baseball, Basketball, Football and Hockey are far more popular here.

      7 hour long game, LOL

i'm a cricket fan and watching a match for a long time is fun. my whole country does. yours is America and totally different.
    1. did
Only for the expats that have come from countries where the game is still played.
    2. csiunatc
Yep, but your original question was if it was popular in the United states unless i'm misstaken.
  14. darren1985
Nope, i don't think so. The States are mainly into baseball, basketball and American Football aka Supeer Bowl. Each country has their own favourite sports. Like in the UK, they're into football aka soccer 24/7. Making EPL one of the toughest league in the world. And majority of football starts are playing in EPL or have played in EPL.

Cricket is a bug that starred in Pinocchio

    Congratulations on your cricket victory

I actually wrote a blog called an American take on cricket a few months ago. I don't know how to play and I was trying to figure it out based on what the BBC World News reported in the highlights every hour.
