Is Dark Knight Cursed?

The untimely death of Heath Ledger...and now this:
The actor Christian Bale, 34, was arrested on Sunday night after his mother and sister reported him to police for an alleged assault.
His mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, are said to have gone to a police station in Hampshire to make the claim, which was subsequently referred to the Metropolitan police.
Bale, in London to attend the European premiere of superhero blockbuster The Dark Knight last night, was apprehended at the Dorchester hotel. The Welsh actor had been staying there when the alleged incident took place.
Also, SFX technician, Conway Wickliffe, died during production as well.
Also, parents are taking kids to this exploration of evil and suffering consequences, such as being surprised how "dark" the movie is.
Wow! Maybe glorifying the 'dark side' is not all it's cracked up to be!

If parents are taking their children to a movie and being surprised by it, that has more to do with poor parenting than the quality of the movie. Why take your child to a movie without learning enough about it to make a good decision?
-
Every review that I read said that this movie was as close as you could get to an R rating and not for kids. So when I went to see it and saw like a 6 and an 8 year old two rows ahead of me I just laughed my ass off. Of course they sat there covering their eyes and were easily traumatized.
Of course it wasn't as bad as one couple bringing a newborn to Hancock. I am sure the sound in a movie theater helps out their developing hearing.
Mind you both of these were past 9pm showings... Where I go to avoid kids. -
My biggest pet peeve is parents that don't bring their kids to places that they shouldn't be. I call it the "hire an f'ing babysitter" syndrome. If they can't afford to hire a babysitter then they shouldn't go to the movies.
I hate the fact that other people are continually punished by people with kids because parents think they can still lead the same lives the way they did before they had kids. You know what once you have kids what you can and can't do changes.
I laughed not at the years of psychotherapy that they will probably need or the months of them not being able to sleep. I had pity for them there. But I laughed at their parents for being idiots and now will have to deal with something far worse because they were either too lazy to look a few things up or didn't care and brought their kids because THEY (the parents) wanted to see the movie.

Kevin, I mostly agree with you, but it's not that the parents are idiots--at least, not for the most part. It's that they're just too damned selfish to care. They're eager to see the movie and so if the kids suffer for it...oh, well. They'll get over it.
I think this is only partly the fault of individual parents, though. There is a strong message (lie) being splashed all over a certain kind of magazine and self-help seminar that strongly suggests that you shouldn't really let having kids interfere with your "me" time or making sure that "your needs get met". Bullshit. When you have kids, they come first, period.

Yeah... I mean the movie was dark for a comic book movie and exploring the id but it isn't half as dark as other movies. It sets up the third movie and was an excellent film.
As far as the tragedy around it... Well I guess the Wizard of Oz was cursed because that one guy hung himself and most of the cast eventually died.
Come on...-
BTW...my "cursed" reference is just a reflection of my love for writing headlines.
However, I think it could be argued that man's fascination with darkness sometimes does have consequences. I am not implying that there is a connection so far with this movie and the events transpired. What I am implying is that being obsessed with this sort of thing probably is not a good idea...IMHO! -
How are they obsessed?
Camping overnight for midnight through early morning showings. Waiting in lines for hours. Having to be there on opening weekend at the expense of possibly putting something more important aside.
Look...I am not saying everyone is obsessed, but with this movie there is a certain percentage going for the morbid fascination factor, the "I-must-see-all-things-Batman" factor and so on.
I do not want to systematically say who is and who isn't obsessed with it...however, judging by the weekend tix sales...a big chunk of the country had an obsession this past weekend.

No, of course it's not "cursed." Life happens, everywhere you go/look, regardless of movies being made.

Hey all these Movies I just wait for to come out on DVD.
I don't even bother to go to a Cinema anymore.
After experiencing a huge Rat run over my foot while watching the Last or most current Xmen movie
or having to run out because someone started a fight and even being shot at in the Cinema,
I don't bother going anymore.
My favorite was watching a young punk working behind the counter spit in the melted butter
and later asking people if they wanted any butter on their popcorn. I never felt OK at a Cinema period. -
I was just saying this exact this this morning! Hopefully Morgan Freeman will be OK =) He is God afterall.

Wait...what are you upset about? Yea, sucks that this bad thing happened...but how is this "glorifying" the bad side? It's a story about a man who had a screwed up child-hood and is taking his wealth and training to protect the city he loves from criminals. How is this a bad thing? It's kind of like getting pissed off about Harry Potter saying that there is no good message in the story >__>
-
Well, to me it is. I grew up with batman. There's a lot of dark philosophy throughout the story, but in the end it's about a man, Bruce Wayne, who had a screwed up child hood and is fighting his fears. His father tried doing something great for this city, but the corrupt business owners are getting richer and not giving a crap about crime and poverty. Bruce Wayne has stepped up to do something about it. Yes, it's a more Gothic take on the glorifications of super heroism, but not everyone is all about the gorgeous x-men, or hottie superman, or patriotic Captain America.

OKay, this is a little off the topic, but I don't get why they have to print the ages of any of these people..Who really cares what the age of these people are! Good grief! Are they trying to make a point and if so what possibly could it be, by listing the age of each person!

I liked 'dark' movies as a kid and I haven't killed anyone. I enjoyed being frightened. If my parents took me against my will to a movie I didn't want to see because it was too 'traumatizing', then I could understand people judging them. However, if I enjoy it, I don't see how it would be abuse, seeing as how I enjoyed it. My son also likes dark movies. I haven't yet seen it - but I'd like to propose that if I did take my son to it, I know my son's threshold more than any one of you. If he wanted to leave, I'd get up in a heartbeat. That wouldn't happen though. He'd most likely be upset if we left. Of course, I'd use discretion either way.(For the record, I haven't seen Dark Knight yet, so it's possible you guys may be right in saying it's too scary for children in general.) However, the last thing I need is for the general public to reduce all of my fatherhood skills down to single moment in time. That said, I will consider the general consensus and not take my son, but my feelings about this topic are still unchanged.

Erick, all kids are different. I think we all know that. The issue isn't about whether a particular movie is empirically appropriate for a specific age or not, but whether parents are bothering to make the kind of assessments you describe here or are dragging kids along to do what THEY want to do without regard to the effect it might have. I think there is far too much of the latter.
-
I don't think the movie is cursed. I think society is just in a tailspin as far as morality goes. Parents are taking kids to see this movie which I don't agree with but I've got two of my own to raise..enuf said about that.
I hope what happened with Christian Bale was simply a misunderstanding. One would hate to think "Bruce Wayne" roughed up his on Mom and Big sis.. -
I took my daughter Harley Quinn, and she ate, burped, slept, and pooped throug most of it. It's definately for kids!

Wow, maybe unrelated incidents shouldn't be grouped together as part of a passive-aggressive condemnation of a popular movie.
