It seems to me that BC is very US orientated...

Am I the only non US blogger on here? Where are all my fellow UK bloggers?

There are quite a few UK bloggers. It's possible that many of them just aren't on right now-- it's, what, about supper time there now?
    1. Wavecrest
      I'm still at work :-(
  2. crpitt
We discourage people from the UK on here, as they aren't in touch with reality.
  3. JessicaMaybury
No reality for me! I'm from Ireland, at least I'm on your side of the world!
  4. Funkkeejooce
My hubby is from the Uk and I'm the blogger.

Don't believe the lies. We allow only on non-USian in the forum at any given time. That's why crpitt and ag can never have a conversation in real time.
    1. crpitt
I think all non US folks should be banned! Goooooooooo Bush!
    2. trailofpen
      Isn't it Obama now?
    3. legbamel
Bush can still "go"...as in "far away". I wish he'd take a Clinton and a few other politicians with him.
    4. balor
Crpitt why are you hate non-US people so hard?
    5. crpitt

As the Brits would say, "t'was a pleasure knowing you (Ms Bond)" .. here, many more people need English lessons (so I hope you'll be around ;-) )
  13. agapelife
@ Wavecrest-The Canadians are an elusive bunch.
@Salomey & JoelKlebanoff - Hope you're not from Montreal or Toronto as there was a thread on that late August.
    1. salomey5
      I'm from Montreal...

Why? Is there something wrong with Montreal?
As opposed to Toronto, of course. We all know EVERYTHING is wrong with Toronto!

Disclaimer: As a Montrealer, it is my duty to crap on Toronto every chance I get. And these chances are few and far between.

Out of curiosity, what did the Montreal/Toronto thread say?
  14. BrianPhillips
Don't forget us New Zealanders! I'm sure I'm not the only one...
    1. Wavecrest
Hi Brian - you seem to be the only Kiwi around at the moment.

      Glen
  15. agapelife
@ Salomey5 - I had a book signing in TO in September and my new blog describes it and also met Gwedolyne there and Montreal would have been on the agenda, but no one from Montreal replied. Have you been away?
    1. salomey5
Only away from BC. I'm a bit of a drifter when it comes to internet communities. Plus I got hooked on Twitter, and I only have enough time to be addicted one community or network at once!

Shame you couldn't make it Montreal, it really is a great city, with lots of things to do.
What did you think of Toronto? It's been a while since I last went, but I have to admit I thought it was *cough*anicecity*cough*.
  16. agapelife
    @BrianPhillips - You're the first I've seen.Welcome! Quite a number of Aussies in BC?
  17. neverdespairgirl
    I'm a British blogger - London here.
    1. agapelife
      Welcome and why that name
    2. Wavecrest
Hi there - not far from you in Kent. Liked your blog btw.

      Glen
  18. agapelife
@salomey - I did live there for 4 years but was homesick for Ottawa and returned. Montreal, annee prochain, J'ai pense!
    1. salomey5
Oh, you're in Ottawa?! Well, that's not far at all!
If you come here next year, try aiming for July if you can. There's at least one thing we do better than Toronto, and that's festivals. We're unbeatable at them, and the jazz festival is particularly impressive.
  19. RoflopagosIsland
Does Canada count?...we do have the Queen on all our shiny dollars
    1. scenexg
Lol Mr. Bean was pretty much THE MAN.
  20. offendedblogger
What is "UK"? Do you get there through a wardrobe or something?
    1. RoflopagosIsland
lolz...it's a magical land of bangers and mash and hilarious TV. I need that wardrobe
    2. offendedblogger
The do have the funniest sitcoms, I give them that but they lose points for blood sausage. Blech!
    3. cookingasshole
      British sitcoms suck ass
    4. crazyTsu
      @wardrobe: Certainly not yours
    5. offendedblogger
      British sitcoms rule.
    6. salomey5
Monty Python doubleplus rule! (It was their 40th Bday yesterday, I think! Or so they said on the news.)
    7. cookingasshole
nope. they are all totally lame. Leave it to America to take a shitty British sitcom (The Office) and turn it into something good.
    8. RoflopagosIsland
Remember Red Dwarf?...aaah so funny. Rimmer the pissy little hologram. I need that on DVD
    9. DailyBeerReview
Damn straight, CA. And the office US is great. I have laughed at Who's Line is it Anyway, Brit version, but only when I could understand what those blokes were saying.
    10. cookingasshole
it is like a different frigging language! I can never understand what the fudge they are saying!
    11. offendedblogger
      Ab Fab.

      Enough said.
    12. Richer44
It is a different language. That is why I always liked Mr. Bean... he hardly talked!
    13. Wavecrest
English comedy can probably be too subtle for some to understand and appreciate I'm afraid.

A lot of our comedy can involve clever word play/double meanings/topical jokes etc and unless you live in the UK and/or English is your first language would be too difficult to follow.

      Glen
    14. gtally
Yeah, I'll simply have to live with the fact that "Benny Hill" is way too sophisticated for a simple American like me!
    15. Wavecrest
@gtally - Lol - of course for every rule there is an exception!

      Glen
  21. amybyrd21
I am from Tennessee and that is barley part of the US, I am in my own little redneck world with out any different ethnic people and no culture Does that count as not part of the US?
    1. cookingasshole
what you forget is that you are "culture"

I mean this in a serious and legitimizing manner.
    2. amybyrd21
lol that is so funny. I have very little culture. I know music and how to cook andhow to put a human being back together or scrape up the pieces. No culture here and none in the area.
    3. cookingasshole
seriously Amy! you ARE the definition of culture and what many, many Americans desire. If anyone is lacking culture it is the jackasses that tell you that you have none.
    4. DailyBeerReview
Watch out, CA. She's got the cops on her ass!
    5. amybyrd21
So since I can churn butter adn milk a cow I am cultured. kool lol
  22. DailyBeerReview
Florida bites the big one. What was the title of this post?
  23. dfunzy
    Is it over?
Now I shall hum, "My country tis of thee ..."
Wait, that has the same tune the Brit's use for their queen.

"My Bonny Lies Over The Ocean" -- I hum that when I have a loss of words and I am searching for some to come. But I won't hum that now. It sounds too much like "Waltzing Matilda" to me.

"Oh Canada" -- that's a beer song, right? I hear it at hockey games, when we play one of those teams from North of the border. Is it "O Canada?" or Oh, Canada?"

There's a dude from British Columbia. He works in town, likes hockey too. I don't drink beer. Others I sit with do. Often they shout his way, "Oh, Canada, pass the beer."

You know I'm kidding right? Americans, we like to boast of how great our country is. That shouldn't belittle anybody else's country, because the American people came from all places.
India is a place with good people. That is where that great American civil right's leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi came from. I don't know if there is anyone here from China. China is good too. What would American action movies be without Jet Li, Jackie Chan and John Woo? These are three excellent American movie makers.
I could go on. But you get the point.
    1. cookingasshole
I don't even know where to begin...

      but for starters:
Gandhi was not an American civil right's (sic) leader

Also please do not judge our country or others by "action movies"
  24. Deray28
You guys forgot me! I'm Mexican
    1. cookingasshole
but you live in the US...
    2. Deray28
Well, yeah, but I'm still Mexican!
    3. cookingasshole
      I guess...but you should assimilate!
    4. Deray28
I dream in English now, I guess I have assimilated enough! jajajaja
    5. crazyTsu
CA, needed: some space to assimilate! Your patriotic evil politicians are holding innocent people at ransom!
    6. cookingasshole
      "innocent" is relative
    7. crazyTsu
      Certainly more legitimate than evil
    8. cookingasshole
      "legitimate" and "evil" are relative
    9. nothingprofound
      Relative is relative.
    10. cookingasshole
      "relative is relative" is relative
    11. crazyTsu
Innocents bow before evil.. the greater evil always prevails - it needs no permission
    12. nothingprofound
"Relative is relative" is relative ad infinitum.
    13. crazyTsu
Why the irony of regular people bowing to evil? Why can't they unite with other regular people?
    14. jeremyjanson
      Because it's fun to watch.
    15. crazyTsu
Well you could watch the videos of people uniting - will be more fun
    16. jeremyjanson
      Sounds like a zombie movie!
    17. crazyTsu
      some freaking sexy ones
  25. dfunzy
Brother cookingasshole, my blogging brother, you didn't get the point.
    1. cookingasshole
I'm sorry but I have to ask if English is your first language.
    2. crazyTsu
@dfunzy: realize here that nothing against india has been spoken..
  26. dfunzy
My dear blogging sister Deray28, what would we be without Mexico?Much poorer in many ways.
    1. Deray28
      Thanks Funzy
  27. dfunzy
Oh, oops! "civil right's" I see you caught that. It is difficult to write on screens. Typos will occur occasionally.
Also. My approach to issues is comedy/satire and parody , and fun. Sometimes the surface isn't as important as what lies underneath.
    1. legbamel
I'm sorry Tsu and CA didn't get that you were joking, but I got a laugh out of your post. We really do need another smart*ss around here, so please post more.
  28. dfunzy
Brother crazyTsu, you didn't get the point. That is satire.
  29. crazyTsu
Why dont you be more clear and enlighten me and our friend?
  30. agapelife
@dfunzy - you've got a comedy blog, made me LOL Find offendedblogger, who is looking for those with comedy blogs for her project.
    1. offendedblogger
World domination is not a "project"! It is serious business.
  31. dfunzy
    Brother crazyTsu
If I had the gift to enlighten, then I would be a wizard. I put forth my thoughts in the form of humor. They will either lay or fall on their own.

Understand this: I know Gandhi never came to the USA, only his ideas, and those ideas have made him an "American" hero. I know Jackie Chan does not like any of the American movies he has made (How do I know this? He wrote the statement on his web site) --- but he has made American movies and they are an important part of the American action cinema. I know that America culture is the sum of many parts.
What makes America strong is that it opens its doors.
I attempted to use satire to make this point. What makes this a strong resource site is that there are people here from all over the world putting in their two cents worth, sharing their experiences and giving their advice.

Darn. I'm getting preachy and away from humor. Pardon me.
    1. agapelife
@dfunzy- Humor does not need explanation - there's a thread looking for Humor Bloggers. Visited your blog and it is funny!
      Have a good night folks!
    2. crazyTsu
I still didnt understand your jokes.. I must be dumb
    3. cookingasshole
      No...his jokes sucked
    4. legbamel
I retract my joke support, as I thought he was pretending to be a typical US resident thinking that what he wrote was true. As that was an error in perception, I agree that it wasn't funny. Sorry, dfuzzy.
    5. crazyTsu
Before you call me a pretender too let me state that I too am not a "resident" of US in a legal sense, although I do stay here.
  32. dfunzy
My Blogging Brother cookingasshole, I consider that remark a compliment.
  33. jeremyjanson
We used to have a blogger from South Africa (sweetViolet), but she hasn't been around for a while.
  34. TWAmacker
    Hello Glen;
I can assure you that BC has a vast number of bloggers from around the world. As a matter of fact my latest blog post at "Pageturners Or Doorstops?" is about a lady in Pakistan who writes a fascinating blog listed here at Blog Catalog, called SHINING HISTORY: Islamic Medieval Civilization. And the wealth of comments above certainly indicate that you woke up a number of blog writers from different parts of the UK and it's Commonwealth. Not to mention a couple of really mouthy Americans.
    1. Wavecrest
Lol - our dear friends from across the pond do like to get involved even though the thread is about non US bloggers.

I certainly wasn't expecting my post to generate this much activity!

Wavecrest, you might be interested in the group called Bloggers that are NOT from the USA: www.blogcatalog.com/group/bloggers-that-are-not-from-usa

The person who created this group wrote: "This group is for all bloggers that are not living in USA. Americans that live abroad are welcome. The purpose of this group is to collect up possible contributors for a Non-American blog, both frequent and quest posters. The blog hasn't been created yet, but should there be interest, this is the place I will look for contributors from. Please invite people you know that fit.

The blog is not going to be a travel blog, nor will it be a "hate americans" blog. What I have in mind is to give space for the rest of the world as Americans are pretty much everywhere."

No, I'm kidding, of course: but then, that's just what a well-designed AI would write.
  48. Norski
I'm an American citizen, by the way, living in central Minnesota. There are individuals on BC who are rather tightly focused on their own area or subculture - wherever that is.

For a while, for example, I was learning quite a bit about the Philippines.

Then there was the time a fellow had some rather interesting discussion threads going about football (soccer, to Americans) in the UK.

Here's a thought: start a discussion thread about something that's very UK-oriented, and see what happens. (No guarantees made or implied - I've learned that what interests me doesn't always interest others: you might, too.)
