It could be a misconception that Fishing is a waste of time and only suited for retirees...
I often hear people telling me that Fishing is boring...Do you feel the same way?
Would you give fishing a chance? Why not try fishing this weekend??

A nice day, beer, a boat, and a fishing pole is a great day. I can't wait for the weather to get better for this.

Yes fishing is boring to me, but yet I love going. In all fairness, it's only boring when I come home cold, wet and empty handed.

Isn’t fishing like the philosophy of life? It’s not about Catching but the process of angling...
  3. exinco
wow, i like fishing bro, make me satisfied and happy

Fishing is no fun....CATCHING is a ton of fun.
    1. GFG
I think there are different stages of fun
      1. Preparation and Anticipation
      2. Process of fishing, baiting, tying knots,
      3. Process of hooking a fish
      4. Process of fighting a fish
      5. Process of Landing a fish
      6. and Rarely Process of Releasing a fish

I have to say it's just definitely not for me. I've tried a few times and just never really enjoyed it. I'm glad there are people who get enjoyment out of it though.

To me yes though I love to eat it. I have a most hyper/add-ish friend, a gur who never sits still for one moment and whose mind goes a mile a minute, who for some reason can sit four hours with a fishing pole - be it on the side of river, lake, or ocean.

Fly fishing is so not boring, but I guess it helps that I live in one of the best places in the world to enjoy it.

Counting down the days until I am here again:

Just love this standby truism: If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

i love fishing, its a great time. Some of the best times of my life have been on the water. Whoever says its boring doesnt know how to fish or where to look. Its a great thing to do

    No, I love fishing.

My daughter loves fishing more than anyone I know. For Christmas she asked for a gift certificate to BassPro or Dick's Sporting goods. I asked her what she wanted a gift card for... she said, "Fishing lures mom.. duh."
    1. offendedblogger
      Awwww!! That made me smile.

My daughter loves it too and we can get lost in the Sportsman's Warehouse or Cabela's for days.
    2. TheMrs
I'll have to scan in a pic of her with her Uncle after she caught a pretty good sized catfish. : ) She was screaming like a banshee! LOL I can't wait for summer!
    3. offendedblogger
Haha! I'd love to see that picture, it cracks me up to see kids get sooo excited over catching a fish.

I can't wait for summer either!!!

I spotted this thread a little while ago, and it made me recall a story -- and that inspired me to write this blog post, called "Thoughts On Fishing":

(Shameless blog promotion, yes, but it was inspired by -- and certainly "goes with" this thread.)

That was such a great story!

GFG, you're welcome to put a link, or an excerpt of the story and a link to it on your fishing blog. That would be nice.

I just got a 14 foot lake canoe. I'm so ready to get out and fish. I live by Lake Coeur d'Alene and I intend to spend a lot of time on the water fishing this year. May even bait the hook.

For me fishing one of the challenging hobby..you need to be patient..I love fishing.

I have done fishing in the past but I prefer hiking and being in the places where one fishes than actually catching fish. I am always intrigued when others say a pastime or passionate interest in something is a waste of time. Who are they to determine what others do is a waste of time simply because they don't like doing it themselves? If it gives a person pleasure to go fishing, then it mustn't be any more a waste of time than the person who sits and watches cars go round and round at a racetrack, or hit balls with a little stick
    1. GFG
      hahah good one

As a child I used to go fishing and I loved it. As a teenager we dicovered I have food allergies to seafood. I haven't eaten fish in 12 years that's when I stopped fishing.
  18. footiam
Yes, and it's very unfair to the fish.
    1. GFG
      Unfair to the fish?

I love to fish with lures, not so much with a bobber and bait. I get bored just sitting there, staring at that tiny dot. Casting and reeling at least give the illusion of activity. It drives hubby nuts that I invariably catch more than he does when we go out as a family. He goes out on his own and pulls monster catfish out of the river, but on a lake I kick his fishin' butt.
  20. Hippychikky
i like fishing if it means casting a line then drinkin a six pack.....my hubby prefers to hike all day up the river, that is not me.
  21. Hippychikky
oh and i would never actually catch one, against the whole killin of zee animals thing
  22. LGramlich
It's only boring if the fish aren't biting...still...after hours of trying. But to be honest I haven't fished in years now.
    1. GFG
Waiting can be real fun too ... anticipation

    Only in the desert.

Fishing sucks, catching crabs is another story (Not the kind you're thinking, my doctor said they're gone now.) Back when I lived in a good area, we spent most of our time catching crabs because they were huge. Sometimes we went fishing, my step-brother at the time caught this really huge disgusting Eel once. But it was kinda dumb, because we usually just caught those stupid flounders and whatnot.
The fish weren't big enough to eat so we'd either throw em back or chop em up and use them for bait.

Oh, the town? Well if you live on the east coast and want to live somewhere quiet and clean with a population of about 2,000, go here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_Gate,_New_Jersey
I lived there for a year or so. The town was Amazing too, lots of good people and the neighborhood was very nice. Hah, even met my first official girlfriend there, I was maybe 10 at the time.
The only problem is living too close to the water, one year it flooded really badly and took months to clean up.
    1. GFG
This couldn't be any clearer that you hate fishing ...heheh

Had a fishing net out yesterday and caught one big cod (5kg), 1 atlantic halibut, 1 plaice and 1 flatfish I don't know the species of.
    Yum yum
    1. GFG
Sole? Those are great for baking
  26. GFG
    Oh Man.. Cod's great!!
  27. kdawg68
actually going fishing is fun. Having to watch bass fishing on ESPN is worse than water-boarding.
  28. kevingoodman
Try fly fishing, if the fish aren’t biting then achieving the perfect cast becomes just as engaging.
  29. GFG
That's true ... Watch this movie (River Runs Through it)
    fishforfood.blogspot.com/2007/07/river-runs-through-it-1992.html
    It will inspire you
