Babe, you're doing a lot of religious questioning. What's up?
    1. siralmo
yeah i know, there was a joke on tv that made me think of this though

i thought it was quite an abstract idea i thought i would post it

besides omnipotence doesn't there are no deficiencies
  2. boytrotters
Maybe God is so comfortable in his own being that he doesn't need to fill the air with the verbal resonances of his every whim and fancy... unlike human beings? I don't know.
  3. HollytheHousewife
He isn't mute tho,I mean there is a whole book he authored. You know the bible, his word
    1. siralmo
God would still be able to see though, god would still be all powerful
    2. dsriharsha
you literally mean he "authored" it?
wrote every verse of every chapter of every book?
    3. HollytheHousewife
      @ harsha
No I don't mean god got out his pen & steno pad
    4. dsriharsha
      @holly.. then?
    5. HollytheHousewife
Then what??? He spoke to the prophets, who wrote the Bible, they even quoted him,u know the words in the red. They had GOD as their source and I think that's better than the sources that we have to believe these days
    6. dsriharsha
      yeah, right
  4. HollytheHousewife
I so wish I didn't have 2 go put my makeup on right now, but I'll be bak later almo. I'm not letting u off the hook on this one haha
  5. deviki
sometimes i wonder the same thing
  6. writings
he/she speaks but through hearts and soul.
    1. siralmo
thats interesting then how do we know we have interpreted the information correctly?

its bad enough being literate and understanding but another thing to be able to understand clearly something that can not clearly be defined
    2. HollytheHousewife
Get over definitions almo. There just words baby doll. Every thing doesn't have to be defined. (Gotta go take rollers out) b bak later
    3. siralmo
how can it not be, its what makes us blind, that's when you start to blur the lines
    4. HollytheHousewife
No almo its what opens our eyes! U have it backwards my dear sherlock
  7. SweetViolet
Not according to some of our members. Certain individuals claim to hear from him on a regular basis.
  8. dsriharsha
@Siralmo.. whats with all these religious threads man? And yet there is hardly any person who comes to the religious debates group..
    1. siralmo
      i answered above ^^
    2. siralmo
besides how come you have not noticed all my other threads?
    3. dsriharsha
      I did notice..
anyway, to answer your question.. a non existent being can neither be mute nor chatty
    4. siralmo
      can you prove gods non-existence?
    5. dsriharsha
of course not.. can you prove the non existence of Russel's teapot?

it is the burden of those who claim something exists to prove the existence of it.
    6. boytrotters
...and the burden of those who claim something doesn't exist to disprove its existence, if you wanna come at it like that.
    7. dsriharsha
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burden_of_proof#Science_and_other_uses
      ================================================
"burden of proof" means that someone suggesting a new theory or stating a claim must provide evidence to support it: it is not sufficient to say "you can't disprove this." Specifically, when anyone is making a bold claim, either positive or negative, it is not someone else's responsibility to disprove the claim, but is rather the responsibility of the person who is making the bold claim to prove it. In short, X is not proven simply because "not X" cannot be proven
      ======================================================

Since the religious *first* made the claim for God's existence, the burden of proof is on them to prove with sufficient evidence. Until that time, we assume the non existence of the claim, while it remains unproven
    8. boytrotters
      Have a cookie.
    9. boytrotters
      Heh heh... me likey.
  9. IntoTheAzureSea
You know, if he speaks back, you might get a heart attack. Haha......
  10. MidwestMom
In order to hear something, you have to be listening for it.
  11. dayflyer
Maybe (s)he subscribes to the idea that it's better to keep quiet until you've got something worth saying, and (s)he's not found anything yet????
  12. sisterofmercy
If God was mute then he wouldn't be omnipotent, which is one of the defining qualities of being a God.
    1. siralmo
of cousre god would be omnipotent (all powerful)

power means "possession of controlling influence"
  13. AzzX
Why would God need to speak with a human voice?
  14. HollytheHousewife
Almo I think midwest mom has hit the nail on the head! I was definately needing to hear from GOD 2day and my ears were opened, and he definately spoke. He spoke to me through someone else's mouth.
He said,"count the blessings you do have".

He was absolutely right to. Now that doesn't mean that everything is all great and wonderful, but it does mean that some of the things I feel I have to face alone,is not true. I will never be alone when he has my back, and that just helps me to breathe a little easier.
  15. nothingprofound
I'm an atheist, and God speaks to me all the time. I think it's a fascinating idea; it's produced some great art and literature; it really makes you stop and wonder and think.

I once got into a discussion with a friend over the idea of "deus absconditus", the hidden God. I felt that God never made His presence known any more. He answered that he sees God all the time, you just have to know where and how to look. Once I came to an understanding in my own mind about what God meant to me then I too could see the signs everywhere.

Of course part of what I figured out about God is that He set everything up as a self-organizing system precisely so He doesn't have to be involved on a day-to-day basis. Whether it works out or doesn't work out is up to us. Hey, it works for me.
  17. boytrotters
Like I said before, maybe God doesn't feel the need to toot his horn, hence his seeming muteness.
  18. Epicharis
God isn't mute, but if she spoke our heads would explode...so she has Alan Rickman talk for her because he has a sexy voice...
    1. boytrotters
Why not the voice of Ella Fitzgerald? Now THAT would be cool...
    2. Epicharis
      www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/

no one ever gets my jokes...
    3. boytrotters
I got it. I was just cracking one of my own.

NOTE TO SELF: Never ever encroach on another person's joke ever again.
    4. dsriharsha
      I got it..
      that was an awesome movie
    5. Epicharis
That's alright then...just round here most of my references seem to cause confusion...
  19. xmarks
Would a deaf person know if another is mute?
    1. boytrotters
Pardon? I can't see to read.
    2. xmarks
He asks if god is mute

      Maybe he is just deaf
    3. boytrotters
Don't mind me... I was making a bad joke...
    4. dsriharsha
      yes..
      By feeling the vibrations

    Nations are many, but Earth is one;

    Stars are many, but Sky is one;
    Oceans are many, but Water is one;
    Religions are many, but God is one;
    Jewels are many, but Gold is one;
Appearances are many, but Reality is One.

I've never 'heard' God, but that doesn't mean He does not speak to people.

That said, I tend to think that the majority of people who say they have 'heard' from God are bold face liars.

If someone tells me they have heard God (not that many people have told me such a thing), I ask what they were told by God.

If the message is not biblical I know they are either a liar or mistaken. I say mistaken because I believe someone may have a dream they believe to be from God for instance.

While I understand that claiming to hear God does not make one a prophet, there is no reason the same biblical test cannot be used that should be used when a person does claim to be a prophet.

    It's a simple test.
If the message does not comport with the bible, then the message is false.
If (in the case of a person claiming to be a prophet or claiming to have a message from God) the thing prophesied does not see fulfillment, then the message is false as is the so called prophet.

One of my friends told me a story.
They came from a religious family, and had a little brother that hated school. He tried everything, always had a stomach bug, headache, bad leg.

So this kid obviously thought, who has more authority than mum?
One day he came down, and went, 'Mum. I spoke to Jesus last night. He said I don't have to go to school'.
    1. siralmo
      haha thats cute ^^
  23. jeremylong
    why not? pay attention then...
  24. pengangguran
    what a................
  25. ophase
What makes you think that God was listening?
    1. siralmo
      you have a different theory?
    2. ophase
Maybe we talk louder than him, so we can't hear him while he was talking
    3. siralmo
LOOOOOL!!! can you imagine everyone yelling their prayers
  26. cazywaz
I think god should be a mute, because its the quiet ones that can judge people for what they really are, looking past the words they use to mask their expressions, and what they really feel.
so for the peoples sake i hope he is
  27. roentarre
We do not even know whether God has a voice box? If God does have one, does God suffer laryngeal cancer?

Hang on... Is it all pre-destined?
  28. amrhima
The world seems godless to me. Why is there evil? why can't he show himself clearly? Why doesn't he talk to us CLEARLY? excuses won't fill his place in spite of the need for some people to believe in him. He's just a bad idea that many people have.
    1. boytrotters
Or maybe we're God's bad idea.
  29. nothingprofound
Why worry about God? Pay attention to your own life. Learn how to be happy.
  30. FatX
It depends on what God you're talking about.
  31. jeremyjanson
God speaks loud and God speaks often to those who will hear him. He delegates much of his communication to the son and spirit, however.
  32. busylizzy
If God could talk, I'm sure SHE has quite alot to say to us!!!!!!!
    1. ophase
      Of course, she can talk
But we cannot understand her language yet.
      (Besides %50 male + %50 female)
  33. TigerXtrm
Why is it that, if you talk to an invisible figure in the sky you are deemed a normal person, but as soon as the invisible figure talks back you get thrown into a mental hospital?
    1. jeremyjanson
Actually you don't get thrown in to a mental hospital if you're polite about it and don't break any laws. Trust me, I've tried it.
  34. HollytheHousewife
That's funny but not intirely true
    1. TigerXtrm
      How's that?
  35. wewe2
God is God....mute is heart fell
  36. exit2013
In answer to your question...only if you listen!
  37. m2urray
This is an interesting proposition you put to us. In normal human to human contact, one person talks and the other listens, then responds to the first who initiated what we call communication. Now, if "God" were human, you would expect the same response, no? "God" is not human, he is a spiritual being, devoid of physical presence and therefore incapable of communicating to us in the normal way us humans communicate to each other, yes? Therefore, "God", if he wishes to "answer" our calls, must communicate to us in another form other than human speech.

What is this other form of communication which "God" uses and does it work for you, i.e. as our leader does ask, does "God", talk to you and how?
    1. jeremyjanson
God can take any form he wishes. He is above the limitations you are outlining and, in fact, has visited the earth contained in a shell of flesh, which he then revived from the dead. The name of this shell was Jesus. He has visited in many other forms as well, including a burning bush and the holy spirit. But God is, above all else, about action and love, and as such, will often speak through his works and creation instead.
    2. siralmo
so you think god is perfect?
    3. jeremyjanson
He is. Now the bible, on the other hand...
  38. m2urray
jeremyjanson, the manefestations you describe are the wonderful works of "Nature" or "Mother Earth" not the result of some diety...
  39. BrazenTeacher
In the book Conversations with God--- it states that God speaks most through experience and feeling... and hardly ever through spoken word as it's the most easily misinterpreted form of communication.
    1. siralmo
and you don't think that experience and feeling is easily misinterpreted?
  40. BrazenTeacher
I do think experience and feelings are very easily misinterpreted. Although I offer the suggestion that we are educated from a very young age to listen to other people's experiences and feelings rather than our own. I think children- especially before age 5 listen to their feelings and experiences with eerie levels of skill and clarity. I think we are born in touch with are feelings and lose it over time... but wholeheartedly admit I have no research or data to back this up :-)
    1. BrazenTeacher
Sheesh... I forgot how to spell today. I am ashamed to be a teacher
