en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burden_of_proof#Science_and_other_uses
================================================
"burden of proof" means that someone suggesting a new theory or stating a claim must provide evidence to support it: it is not sufficient to say "you can't disprove this." Specifically, when anyone is making a bold claim, either positive or negative, it is not someone else's responsibility to disprove the claim, but is rather the responsibility of the person who is making the bold claim to prove it. In short, X is not proven simply because "not X" cannot be proven
======================================================
Since the religious *first* made the claim for God's existence, the burden of proof is on them to prove with sufficient evidence. Until that time, we assume the non existence of the claim, while it remains unproven

If God was mute then he wouldn't be omnipotent, which is one of the defining qualities of being a God.

Almo I think midwest mom has hit the nail on the head! I was definately needing to hear from GOD 2day and my ears were opened,and he definately spoke. He spoke to me through someone else's mouth.
He said,"count the blessings you do have".
He was absolutely right to. Now that doesn't mean that everything is all great and wonderful,but it does mean that some of the things I feel I have to face alone,is not true. I will never be alone when he has my back,and that just helps me to breathe a little easier. -
I once got into a discussion with a friend over the idea of "deus absconditus", the hidden God. I felt that God never made His presence known any more. He answered that he sees God all the time, you just have to know where and how to look. Once I came to an understanding in my own mind about what God meant to me then I too could see the signs everywhere.
Of course part of what I figured out about God is that He set everything up as a self-organizing system precisely so He doesn't have to be involved on a day-to-day basis. Whether it works out or doesn't work out is up to us. Hey, it works for me. -
God isn't mute, but if she spoke our heads would explode...so she has Alan Rickman talk for her because he has a sexy voice...

I've never 'heard' God, but that doesn't mean He does not speak to people.
That said, I tend to think that the majority of people who say they have 'heard' from God are bold face liars.
If someone tells me they have heard God (not that many people have told me such a thing), I ask what they were told by God.
If the message is not biblical I know they are either a liar or mistaken. I say mistaken because I believe someone may have a dream they believe to be from God for instance.
While I understand that claiming to hear God does not make one a prophet, there is no reason the same biblical test cannot be used that should be used when a person does claim to be a prophet.
It's a simple test.
If the message does not comport with the bible, then the message is false.
If (in the case of a person claiming to be a prophet or claiming to have a message from God) the thing prophesied does not see fulfillment, then the message is false as is the so called prophet. -
One of my friends told me a story.
They came from a religious family, and had a little brother that hated school. He tried everything, always had a stomach bug, headache, bad leg.
So this kid obviously thought, who has more authority than mum?
One day he came down, and went, 'Mum. I spoke to Jesus last night. He said I don't have to go to school'. -

The world seems godless to me. Why is there evil? why can't he show himself clearly? Why doesn't he talk to us CLEARLY? excuses won't fill his place in spite of the need for some people to believe in him. He's just a bad idea that many people have.

Why is it that, if you talk to an invisible figure in the sky you are deemed a normal person, but as soon as the invisible figure talks back you get thrown into a mental hospital?

This is an interesting proposition you put to us. In normal human to human contact, one person talks and the other listens, then responds to the first who initiated what we call communication. Now, if "God" were human, you would expect the same response, no? "God" is not human, he is a spiritual being, devoid of physical presence and therefore incapable of communicating to us in the normal way us humans communicate to each other, yes? Therefore, "God", if he wishes to "answer" our calls, must communicate to us in another form other than human speech.
What is this other form of communication which "God" uses and does it work for you, i.e. as our leader does ask, does "God", talk to you and how?-
God can take any form he wishes. He is above the limitations you are outlining and, in fact, has visited the earth contained in a shell of flesh, which he then revived from the dead. The name of this shell was Jesus. He has visited in many other forms as well, including a burning bush and the holy spirit. But God is, above all else, about action and love, and as such, will often speak through his works and creation instead.

In the book Conversations with God--- it states that God speaks most through experience and feeling... and hardly ever through spoken word as it's the most easily misinterpreted form of communication.

I do think experience and feelings are very easily misinterpreted. Although I offer the suggestion that we are educated from a very young age to listen to other people's experiences and feelings rather than our own. I think children- especially before age 5 listen to their feelings and experiences with eerie levels of skill and clarity. I think we are born in touch with are feelings and lose it over time... but wholeheartedly admit I have no research or data to back this up :-)

I agree.
