Is it better to pay for a blog or use the free ones available?

I use blogger which is free and I did use wordpress on a domain name I owned (got bored with it)and paid for hosting (ages ago).
But what do you think is better?
Is there more control with a paid service or have you found the freedom you need with your free provider.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Well as a Scot the freebie will always win.
I'm on blog.co.uk it's a freebie and it serves my purpose well
I came on here today and like the chat thing. Yes free wins hands down.
