If there was a news story about hitchhikers beating, torturing, or killing people, laws might be considered to illegalize hitchiking (in fact this is why it is so in certain places) so how can the same logic not be applied to constructing tough new laws regulating the conduct of criminals in uniform?

I've always advised my girls never to stop for a police officer (or what appears to be one) in a deserted area--rather, to proceed (slowly, and observing all traffic laws) to the nearest populated, brightly lit area and pull over there, and if they are able to do so safely, to use their cell phones to call the police and advise of their location and what they're doing and where they will stop.

that's good advise. It is too bad that the Rule of Law has come to this

that's what my rule has always been - I won't stop for anyone in the middle of nowhere... I'd rather drive to the nearest police station, state highway patrol post, whatever, then stop in the middle of nowhere for a cop. I trust no one.

Come on? Pick up a hitchhiker of course.

I can't remember the last time I heard of a hitchhiker assaulting anyone. I think it is kind of a cinematic stereotype. On the otherhand police brutality videos are everywhere, and for obvious reason.

It is pretty obvious that sicko who get off on brutalizing people don't hitchhike cross country... the become police officers

I can only say a few things. Police officers are NOT all --- ALL bad.

    There ARE some good ones.

However the ADMINISTRATION and the few bad apples well - let's just say this: They LIE - they fabricate and they shouldn't be allowed to carry weapons because they are power hungry and insane.

Yes, many people are picked-up and never seen again.
