Grammy-Nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi has joined American Idol as a fourth judge. She will sit alongside Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson at the judges' table and use her background as an award-winning songwriter and producer to praise or critique the wannabe hopefuls throughout the competition. The eighth season of American Idol premieres January 2009 on FOX.

for me, reaching 8th season, it is the best way to make the show more interesting and being away for being flat.

There was a time when I watched American Idol just to laugh at the folks who can't sing in the opening episodes. But then it dawned on me that these folks are purposely put through the initial screening process, just so Simon and company can belittle them. Can't say I'm a fan of that. Beyond that, the whole idea that this glorified "gameshow" will present a new "idol" to me is wholly laughable.
Does anyone really idolize Rueben, or Taylor Hicks, or whatever that annoying blonde kid that looked like Doogie Howser was? I couldn't even tell you who won last year.
About the only compelling thing in recent memory was the Sanjaya mania and Paula being comotose from meth amphetamines on live tv. -
