Using FREE advertising? Possibly, but I think it'll take LOTS and LOTS of time and effort...

With effort you can drive traffic to your sites, but 100,000 hits takes a lot of great content and work behind the wheel driving traffic in from other sources. If you had everyday all day to do this it is possibly doable but still that is a huge audience.

I went on a little 'drive' recently and within 2 hrs I had 300 hits to one site.

But I am no where close to 100,000 though overall I've been read about that, but that is since I started not every month!!

Same goal here. visit my new community blog: http:adsensereviews.blogspot.com

No matter which way you travel in this blogging business, it's uphill going, and against the wind coming back.

My highest is arount 74,000 just a tad over. I havent paid for anything so I guess that counts.

As for 100,000 it would be hard but not impossible, my blog is a bit over 4 months and receiving 50,000 Unique visitors a month. This morning for example I received 8027 unique visitors in 2 hours.

You need to optimize SEO, use social bookmarks sites, and generally post good content.
    1. beccysprofitbiz
How did you do it! that is a lot of unique visitors....can you please share how you got that much visitor in less than two days?
  10. nplbjirel
This blog stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com has already got 6,156,465 hits in less than two months.
    1. BlogBadly
That's because it's the greatest website ever made, of course.

Wow! but no one is saying how they got that much traffic thou...

I was around 90K this month
    1. crpitt
      Thats cool.
    2. beccysprofitbiz
so all you do is post valuable content on your stumbleupon account and watch the traffic grow? you don't have to do anything special?
  12. LisaT
Yes but much of social media's traffic is VERY SHALLOW. I get a lot of traffic from some social media sites and the duration/page depth is quite disappointing.

I'm planning on adding a newsletter to my blogs so I can at least capture the ones that are genuinely interested.

    Shoot for quality over quantity.
    1. pointlessbanter
It depends on what you write.

Personally for me search engine traffic is a waste, unless they are googling my sites title people are on my page less than seven seconds with most top google searches because I write a comedy blog. It isn't a source of information, which I totally understand.

Social media like stumbleupon does well for me, those people stay on my site for about two minutes. So they are at least reading the post, which is more than I can say for the people that find me via search engines. Although the people that are googling my the name of my site stay for about ten minutes.

As far as for shooting for quality over quantity why can't you do both? More traffic means more eyeballs, even though they might not be quality eyeballs at least people are getting exposed to my site in some way. Plus with higher traffic numbers I make myself more attractive to advertisers and elevate the status of my blog.

I think you're right, Pointless-- it absolutely depends on what you're writing, your niche.

It's good to have some really targeted traffic sources. But putting it out there through Google, where, yes, folks tend not to stay as long unless it's specific information they're looking for doesn't hurt. It might be a smaller conversion rate, but it's free traffic.
    3. pointlessbanter
Oh I am happy to get traffic from where ever. I have been working to improve my SEO because I have too much content to not get a good amount of traffic from search engines.

Free traffic is free traffic, I am not one to look a gift horse in the face... Or whatever that old saying is...

How does your site do with google images? I know you use a lot of pictures.
    4. ThriftShopRomantic
Getting better all the time, in terms of images, yup.

Now that the Blogspot portion of my site has been around about three months, I'm seeing the search engine stuff uptick to twice what it had been. And this last week, I started seeing the Google images referrers. Those are actually not too bad for me in terms of qualified traffic. They already can see what I've been working on through the photos, so they don't arrive and get scared off.
    5. pointlessbanter
I did like your trays that had office supplied in them.

Yeah images take forever to get index, after I moved my site a few months ago from wordpress mu (a server edition I had it on) to a single wordpress install it awhile for things to get back to normal.

Once you get rolling though it is pretty huge, it is like my 5th biggest referrer now. I use like one or two pictures a post, I can't even imagine what is going to happen for you a month or two down the road.
    6. ThriftShopRomantic
Thanks. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it does fill a niche.

We'll see what happens in a month or two. Fingers crossed. It's fun to see it evolve, anyway.
  13. streamcast
I got a lot of traffic before I switched the cms software.
    1. ncaditya
You should start getting more traffic in the coming months.

The CMS might have changed the link structure and it takes some time before Google will update the links in its index.
  14. nursarahlam
it is difficult unless if you are as popular as Yahoo!
  15. alstallio
that's a dream amount....i guess u would need t.v and the biggest producers and directors backing u.
  16. voodooKobra
I get about 70K to 80K total pageviews a month without advertising of any form (about 30K to 40K unique). The only thing I -do- use to get traffic is StumbleUpon.
  17. bsilvia
It's possible and not so difficult (Feb, 2008: 172,259 PW), but still my AdSense sucks!
    1. voodooKobra
If you're concerned about Adsense, then you're doing it for the wrong reasons.
    2. bsilvia
I'm not concerned about AdSense, just don't understand why I'm not getting more clicks. :-D (wrong reasons?!)
  18. emerson
Who knows your primary school classmate is now yahoo webmaster. Maybe, if both of you will meet. Add your site on yahoo homepage. LOL. There you have it.
  19. addlo
This very possible if you've got great content and utilize the Social Networking sites effectively.
About AdSense it really depends on what your blog is about, the keywords your blog and articles are targeting, as some may yield a couple of dollars and others just a few cents!
  20. Kiwipulse
A couple of article stumbled on stumbleupon, I'm sure you can get 100k page views, I did it. SO I think you can achieve the same result that I had.
    1. Alex51
Can you show me your stumbled article?
  21. Alex51
    It's easy! GOOGLE ADV!
    or check this www.blogcatalog.com/advertise/
  22. mikesilvia
I get 3.5 million page views a month but it is on a forum:
    www.sportscardforum.com

I get about 60,000 with my Zune Blog:
    www.zuneinfo.com

I do very little advertising and would get that traffic without advertising. Over 75% of my traffic comes from direct or Google.
    1. Alex51
      I found that you site(forum)has a traffic rank of: 99,915 at alexa.com
My site www.fileplaza.com has a traffic rank of: 47,460
And I think that you site have not 3.5 million page views!
      Or NOT?
    2. mikesilvia
Alexa is not very accurate for determining page views. I'm using my Google Analytics to get 3.5 million. My server stats show much higher.
  23. furniture27
Check out Gizmodos site meter at: www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=sm7gizmodous

They average 1.6 million page views per day.
    1. Alex51
Great stat but "raffleblog" ask How to get 100 000 visitors, not hao many visitors some site(blog) has!
    2. csiunatc
Yeah but average is 1 second.... not sure thats something i'm interested in.

  24. umesh
Possible if you have top ranking for few popular keywords in search engines.

For my blog funnyjokes4me.blogspot.com the traffic for last month was around 1,40,000 pageviews.
  25. jonnyontheball
Time on the computer & reply to others of a similar interest.
    Like me! Bon chance.

What happens to your website if…

    * …you get a spike of millions of hits a day due to mainstream media, Digg, Slashdot, or BoingBoing? (Or all of the above!)
    * …a hard drive in your server burns up?
    * …any one of the services on the server—MySQL, Apache, DNS, PHP—fails?
    * …every post gets deleted, is there a recent backup? How old is it?
    * …your datacenter’s network goes down or has problems?

FWIW i can has cheesburger is VIP hosted by wordpress[dot]com. Set up fees are $600 and monthly hosting fees $300. wordpress.com/vip-hosting/
    1. bradhart
If you get inconsistent traffic with social media, google is not above saying you don't fit their advertising model and close your adsense account.
  27. raffleblog
for almost 6 months of blogging I still don't get the right way to get more visitors using free advertising method.
  28. voodooKobra
I get about 100,000 pageviews per month without any advertising.

(I had 1,596,840 hits according to Google cache on July 12, 2008 and I'm up to 1,713,936 as I write this.)
  29. HughBriss
I know of very few 'free advertising' methods that actually work. Just exactly what kind of free advertising are you talking about? Getting listed on Digg or other social communities is not 'advertising', btw.
  30. natasha123
I am getting 300+ a day to my free phone call site www.freecalltips.com
Can any one tell me the idea to make my traffic high!
  31. contentconnection
of course it is... visit my sites now and you'll be one of the 100,000+ who visits to my sites everymonth:
    www.articlepoint.com
    www.webcontent.com

Once i bumped onto a blog run by a woman...
she hit 1000000000 views in one month...
    you know why?

she said she'll post a pic of her taking bits of her clothes off at every 10000 hits ending with a full frontal...

    amazing
    1. lamenews
yes but 1/2 those hits were from me
    2. bradhart
Let me guess Lamenews all you could do was hit the F5 key for a refresh because your other hand was occupied?
  33. acousticguitarist
    YES, but REALITY CHECK

What lon earth do YOU have to offer that would deserve that many people?

Once you get that sorted then you could worry about traffic, til then you're dreaming.
  34. COOLINGSTAR9
It is possible. If you become famous overnight. If not, you need some skills.
  35. jordanmcclements
You can get that sort of traffic..

But you have to work at it for a long time!
  36. bradhart
The best way to get 100k hits is by being around long enough and doing good job with the SEO. Social media can take you a long way but if you have too many days of really high and inconsistent traffic google can and does cancel adsense accounts
  37. cil
Yes it is possible when your post is informative.
  38. Qumang
As a new blogger it is impossible. Smart work and hard work will make this goal come true.
  39. hippygourmet
Which social media sites do you find to be most effective?
  40. joaojeronimo
If you have great content and let people know that your blog exists then you can be sure that you will have a lot of visitors...
