...or some sort of sadistic torture dreamed up by a psychotic, vindictive, vengeful god?

Yeah, I know. It's a tough one.

If you're lucky enough to have been 'blessed' with naturally curly hair, you've probably hated it at some point. You've probably stood in front of the mirror staring at the frizzy corkscrews that refuse to be tamed, looked at your friends with their sleek, shiny, straight hair, and thought to yourself "Why? Why me? What did I do to deserve this?"

Can you tell I've been there.

I've just updated my blog, That Dress is Divine!, with a post all about my adventures with curly hair. You can view that at iwantthatdress.blogspot.com

In the meantime, are there any naturally curly-haired people reading this? How do you feel about your hair? Do you spend inordinate amounts of time thinking about it, like I do?

My 1 year old daughters hair is curly and trying to brush it is awkward, roll on when she is old enough to worry about it herself

When she's older she probably won't need to brush it! The best curls happen when you lose the brush. Fingercomb all the way.

my son's hair is curly and I love it! I cut it short all the way around and leave curls on top. People are always complementing his hair. Oh, we use a little dab of leave in conditioner in his hair after his bath, and that helps.

      hehe! That sounds totally gorgeous.

I think naturally curly hair would be nice. I've gone through life with rope-thick, rail straight Irish/Cherokee hair. I can't style it without a ton of gel, it never dries and it's hotter'n blazes in summer if it's not nearly buzzed.

My oldest son has some nice curls in his hair that he inherited from his mother, though.

Curly hair is pretty much the same, you have to put a lot of time and effort (and hair product) into styling it for it to look good!

Everybody, I think, always wants the opposite of what they have. :-)

i agree with TSR!!! i hv natural curly hair and it gives me nightmares!!!!! its really hard to maintain a curly hair u hv no idea , specially a long curly hair!! and its true the best way is to finger comb!! brush only for when its wet!!
    1. iwantthatdress
I wouldn't even brush it when it's wet! I never, ever brush mine though it is fairly short so that could be why I can get away with it.

Of course, I think I'd love to have naturally curly hair. But then if I did have it, I'm sure I'd complain.

hehe I think you definitely would

Oh yes! A straight iron is my best friend. I'm sure if I had straight hair, a curling iron would take it's place. The grass is always greener...

Oh, duh LOL I just repeated you! Sorry...
    2. iwantthatdress
hehe! I totally agree with you. But don't forget to give your hair a rest from time to time from the straightener!

Well, compared to my stick-straight bleh...it might be nice. I know I'd feel differently if I had it, though. Grass is always greener etc...
    1. iwantthatdress
Well, from your userpicture, your 'stick-straight bleh' isn't bleh at all!!

I've got naturally curly hair and yeah I agree its a sadistic torture dreamed up by a psychotic, vindictive, vengeful god!

My hair is medium/long and very thick with tight corkscrew curls. I actually love curly hair - I just hate the time and hassle and expense of keeping it under some sort of control:( If I had straight hair i would perm it. I just had mine "relaxed" which means that it is still very curly, but it is not frizzing as much and is easier to look after. LOL and I don't wake up in the morning looking like medusa!

haha! Gotta hate waking up looking like medusa. As soon as I get up, even if I've only been lying down for a few minutes, my hair stands straight up. It's completely crazy.
