Well these shameless blog promotions hardly work, but when I feel as passionately as I do about a particular topic, I just feel compelled to share... Especially in this case.
So I'm a music fanatic, I know and anyone who has read my blog should know this by now as well.
Before you read the blog post though (if you do at all) I'd just like to say that it saddens me greatly to see Rock & Roll legends who were once forward thinking, open minded, and 'in the moment' become so blind to the way things really are, and simply diminish into parodies of themselves.

While i talk about 'Women being able to live without men' in another discussion, i just accused someone of shameless blog promotion in that discussion and said I'll resort to it sometime today. Well this is a great opportunity to do so... and here we go

I think guitar hero and rock band are fun games, and I don't think they are going to make less people want to learn how actually play instruments. If anything, I think it will do the opposite. The game is fun, you get to play in a "band" and make music, but when you realize that the plastic guitar in your hands is useless if you want to play anything other than the included songs, then what? You might pick up a real guitar and start experimenting.
If the game keeps you from picking up the real thing, I don't think you would have done much with the real instrument anyway. Learning an instrument takes time and patience. A game is just a game, it's fun and gives instant gratification. These are two quite different things. -
I think most "rock legends" just want to enjoy the time they have left, so the monetary compensation fron Rock Band and other games is more than welcome to them. I find it pathetic that people try and uphold some larger than life image of others, seemingly forgetting that these "Legends" and "Gods" are just plain human beings. When that image is tarnished, for whatever reason, these people cry out that these "Legends" have sold out. People aren't marionettes that you can pose around to fit your own agenda. I almost feel as if these people would rather have "Legends" sent to a taxidermist after they've died so they can wheel them around like some freakshow mascot.
As far as the article is concerned, Rock Band is not a substitute for learning music. I agree with Rainhat that most people would get tired of the fake instruments and want to pick up a real one instead.
