Recently, smoking in public places was banned in India. Although the ban is not fully imposed, many people have quit smoking, atleast in public places like stations, gardens, etc.

Is smoking banned in your area? Are you in favour of such a ban?

I think it is great that most restaurants in my region are banning smoking.
My husband smoked and he complained it was harder and harder to find smoking restaurants.
That was great for me. He is quiting now.

Once we were in Amsterdam aeroport. When we first arrived you could smoke, and 2 weeks later it was strictelly banned under severe laws.
He draged me throuh all the aeroport, and it is huge,
    to go outside to smoke.
He was after many hours of flight and was nervouos( this is how smoking affects your family, by the was, not to mention the money that are burned)

we had only 40 minutes time between flights and he tok that risk just to smoke.
It is terrible to be addicted, that's my opinion.

i was talking about Iceland. here you can't even shop tabacco if you don't show your id(you have to be over 18)hat

by the way, for those who find it very difficult to quit, there are also natural ways to fight it.
if you go to my blog, you'll find i mention such a natural cure called Nicocure, that is testified by many to work.
Anyway, beeing 100 % natural, it has no side effects.

I think it was July last year that the smoking ban in the UK came into place. It stops people from smoking in enclosed public places, so this is everything from buildings to bus stops.

Most likely the ban is to prevent the effects of passive smoking, which I follow, but it's really stupid to see a No Smoking sign in a phone booth.

It's finally been banned in Pennsylvania's restaurants and most bars, and generally indoor public places. I think that's great.

At the same time, I think people go a bit overboard with getting upset if they smell somebody's cigarette on the street.

yeah. it is banned in public. but no one seems to care

These cities, counties and states that impose laws like this still reap the benefits of cigarette taxes. It's a double standard.

Decisions about private establishments should be made by the private owner.

In Washington state it is banned in restaurants, bars and 20 feet from public buildings. I love it.

I smoke about a pack a day. And while I initially resisted the order I came around to why it was implemented. I've always tried my best not to smoke in a way that could turn out to be annoying to those around me.

It's good to see that smoking is banned in many places...I can say that the decision to ban smoking in India was taken a bit late..

We have a rather uneven smoking ban where I live. It's banned for most restaurants and bars, except there are a few very large exceptions, and grandfathered in smaller clubs.

So essentially the state banned smoking for business owners, but allowed smoking in other venues, and their business has gone to the smoking establishments.

Now, the problem that I have with the ban aside from that, is the fact that in our area we already had plenty of restaurants, bars, and clubs that were smoke free by choice. There was no smoking in malls, stores, and several restaurants, several bars, and several venues that were used for night clubs and/or conference rooms, events, etc.

Non smokers had just as many choices as smokers did, and it worked out well. There was no need for it, in my opinion. And, because the law was applied unevenly, it has caused the closing of many a local business whose regular customers (and thus, income) were smokers who now only frequent their favorite places once in a while, but prefer to go to the places that still allow smoking.

I don't agree with the ban, the government in the UK as basically taken away people's right to choice. You choose to smoke and you choose to not.

But governments do like money and the pathetic non-smoking groups obviously had the money to pay the government.

It's just tough on us smokers for the time being.
