So after months of working on it I semi launched my new blog about social media.

socialmediaanswers.com/is-the-real-ultimate-goal-of-social-media-to-get-to-...

Today I write about people trying to achieve the broadcast position in social media.

So if you are into social media this should be a decent read blog wise.

Maybe I should have put something controversial in this thread.

Black people choose to be black.

    There. Discuss.

Oh and blah, blah, blah.... Jesus

One can spend their entire day attempting to position themselves by camping out in social media sites but to what end? IMO those who are climbing their way into a broadcast position will eventually discover that it’s the discussion that takes place on blogs that have faithful and growing readership that truly matters. By then they will have a time management problem because they have geared themselves to using their broadcast buddies to climb to the top of places like twitter, rather than to creating blog centered relationships with readers.

The thing is though you see people leveraging twitter that way and it really is probably half an hour to an hour of their day building mass numbers and occasionally tweeting. Once that happens a lot of the twitter friend recommendation engines pick them up because they have so many friends and keep recommending them to new users.

So they have established a voice through a little effort with little or no quality content. It is amazing to watch. Disgusting but amazing.

Oh, so those 200 emails I've been avoiding from twitter about new friends, I should start using in some way

It's utterly disgusting. I have seen that blogs containing sweet muck all climbing and I have even seen those with scraped and plagiarized content climbing too. But dare I say so?

How to get smacked down by obsessive tweeters example:
I think this "temperature" or popularity index is a vanity trap that many people are falling into. Take note that when you submit your twitter ID to this site you are not submitting it to the main site of twitter itself. Who cares what your rating is aside from the internet marketers? Why does this matter to you? Are those followers of yours actually forming a faithful readership centered on your blog? If not then what benefit are they to you?

Take note that no one answered the questions I posed when I posted this comment yesterday instead I received a smack down for supposedly leaving a terrible comment.

Really the main reason is to get so much good stuff recognized by other social media members that they are just going to steal it because it's so good.

Excellent article. I found the concept of using social media to manufacture one's authority intriguing, "as opposed to having that authority created by a deeper endorsement of their work be it links, subscribers, or sharing of [your] content". Kinda makes you laugh (I think you hit the nail on the head)!

    @ AG:

I've had several people steal ideas and concepts from me - not whole pieces of work - but they take my ideas and go with them, so to speak. This is not something I will complain about though. You have to get over it and just know that you have integrity because YOU are your own creative source, YOU do not have to steal of others creativity. People who do steal, I believe will eventually fall on their face because they've got nothing to back themselves up with.
