      No it does not mean that. The phrase 'life is self sustaining' means life knows how to take care of itself, knows how to nourish itself, knows how to go on.

      Yes we do.
      
      Some people can survive without food/water for extended periods of time, through yoga. There is a movement in Europe which tries to learn such techniques. So PERHAPS such a thing is possible. Surviving without food/drinks. But I have not seen proof so no furthur comments.

   I also believe it should be possible for us to harness energy from surroundings (the sun) DIRECTLY, and not rely on food for energy.
   
   I believe it is possible, and that we need to evolve a bit before we can do such things.
   
   The movement I mentioned in my last post - such movements are an attempt in this direction.

   If we need to evolve a bit and it cant be done yet then surely life for humans isnt substaining. Eventually we all need to eat or drink.

   carl, death happens. But birth also happens. Life goes on.
   
   Eternal life for the individual. This can be discussed, but its impossible to discuss this from within the scientific framework. Such a discussion is possible only if one steps into the mystical framework.
