What do you find better for blogging ? Wordpress or Blogger

I am blogging on blogger since adding widgets and html is easier. On www.wordpress.com, I find it difficult to add the advertisement widgets.

You can only work with the tools you have, its what you do with those tools that matter.

    Everyone has their favourites.

I use blogger because it's a very stable site. But it's not the most interactive hosting site, so I have two "mirror" blogs at Blog City and EFX2 which are more interactive, especially EFX2. However, EFX2 has had ongoing stability problems, so I keep the Blogger blog active. I've not tried Wordpress yet, so I can't comment on it.

I've used both. Blogger is good for ease of use, and there are lots of sensible advantages to using it. But, Wordpress on your own domain is very powerful. If I switch to my own domain at any time, I'll likely go with WP and my own host.

Wordpress.com has some pretty severe restrictions on advertising. If it's advertising you want to do, you should probably be on Blogger.

    Full Disclosure: I use both.

[edit] Wordpress.org, of which Ghosty speaks, is another matter entirely. Haven't gone that route, so I can't speak about it. [/edit]

Blogger.com of course. Wordpress, whats that??

I go with Blogger for advertising Wordpress has some nice templates but blogger i can advertise with.

Self Hosted Wordpress is the way to go.

Anyone that thinks otherwise, just isn't thinking.

This indicates blogger scores higher. However I have noticed www.wordpress.org is very popular with professionals !!!

If your going self hosted then wordpress.org is the best in my opinion

Self-hosted Wordpress. Plugins, widgets, html, CSS, customization galore, easy to control every bit of it, and yep, ads are easy too.

I tried Blogger years ago and it was really hard to tweak, and the support was non-existent. I gave up and moved what I was doing to Squidoo.

Now, with Wordpress, I finally have a flexible blog that I can tailor to my own needs.

I use Both Blogger and Wordpress for my Ann Arbor Real Estate business. Blogger is easier but Wordpress has more features. WP is a little "Geekier". But has a lot more features. I suggest Blogger for new bloggers that want to get started blogging and are very busy.

I can easily say that blogger is for newbies and wordpress for advanced/experimented users. Its not everyone that know html/PHP very well

now let me see - would you use a hammer to bake a cake? Unless its a mud pie than ... well, both are tools - if you want the easy way out - click blogger, if you want to have a more personalized blog, click wordpress. You could easily use Drupal or Joomla as tools for your next blog{s} - but remember - they're just tools.

I have seen many wordpress blogs that looks simply great to me. Neat and appealing. I owned one but it is not user friendly for beginner like me. Blogger is, to me, idiot proof. Thus, i have been using Blogger.
  16. Profitline
To produce themes like wordpress on a blogger is advanced and not idiot proof, please do not discriminate bloggers users. I am sure there are many themes with excellent coding using xhtml which you have not seen before.

Wordpress. The word from above is that ads are on the way.
  18. MissPinkBiik
    i love blogger!

I like the posting interface of Wordpress than Blogger. That's more for my private blog though, than that for which I put advertisements. Blogger is more customizable, but I still love love love how Wordpress organizes stuff.

Wordpress, self hosted is the way to go. I had set up an account with blogger once but after working exclusively with Wordpress I was very confused! After realizing that it was very difficult to create pages, I added another subdomain and blog with Wordpress and was happy again!

Blogger: Ugly bar at the top, strange, cumbersome commenting interface for your readers, limited themes, no plugins (add-ons), a form of censorship, banned at most K-12 school and government servers, most serious blog authors don't read blogger blogs because they connote a noob.

Wordpress.org (NOT dot com, there is a huge difference): Highly customizable, 1,000's of plugins, constant development and imporvement, no censorship, much more professional and successful appearance, tag support, SEO optimal

    In short? Blogger sucks.

I'm with Wordpress and think it's easy to use, though slow at times...
The thing that annoys me is that you're not allowed to add ads. It would be nice to have the choice if you wanted them or not.

I have to agree with the comments about the ugly bar on top of Blogger, I find it very distracting.

Hosted Wordpress is gr8 to work with. As rileycentral mentioned, wordpress is highly customizable with hell a lot of free plugins, community support. You dont have to be a geek to work with wordpress. In recent times, plugins will do the do the job for you. Even if you have to touch the PHP code, there are huge number of instructions available for dummies! My vote is for wordpress!

If you use free service, then I would recommend blogger. If paid, then wordpress.
  25. xtremer
I would recommend Blogger, for noobs and pros alike, it's easy to use, packed with features and above all, free!

Plus its part of Google - so you're assured that your blog stays up even if you don't blog daily. But the joy of wordpress{.org} is beyond words
  26. dubaiguy
Don't have much experience with WordPress, but I think whatever makes you comfortable is good for you. I have been using blogger for almost 2 years now & so far it has worked perfectly. I love the comments follow up notifications by mail, something which is missing in almost all wordpress based blogs I have seen :-)
  27. veeshken
Blogger. Do I see an attempt by "some" guys to run down blogger users ?
  28. seanachi
I've used both and prefer Wordpress. I'm one of the few here who mean the .com not the .org version. I find that Wordpress is easier to use if you're not very knowledgeable about html and css. There are a lot of pre-built widgets and capabilities and a number of themes to choose from. However, yes, there are severe restrictions on advertising, so if that's what you're interested in doing, Wordpress isn't the way to go.
  29. gosmelltheflowers
Wordpress all the way to us...

It'll be bringing in viral social tools soon as well!
  30. DeadRooster
I've used both and I prefer WordPress. Not to mention Blogger just erased 3 of my blogs.

Note: I'm talking about WordPress on my own domain.
  31. whojaybe
Well, I recently just converted from Blogger to Wordpress and I can't be happier. Matter of fact, all my stats have improved since, especially my commenting! www.datmoney.com/2008/03/is-it-a-coincidence-my-stats-gotten-better-since-s...
  32. SharkBait
I would say by far Wordpress is better. I've used both Blogger and WordPress.com and I prefer WordPress.

I also recommend people looking at Blog Hosting packages and making the jump to WordPress.org's self-hosted blog.

Even for as little as $6/month you can get your own blog with your own domain name! www.tyleringram.com/blog/save-money-with-promotion-code-for-bluefurcom-web-...

    =)
  33. AainaA
And yes, if you're a little bit creative, WordPress MU is a way to create your own SN. Its too neat to even overlook.
  34. clioandme
Here is the definitive answer for all such threads: There is no way to say which one is better for all people. It depends on what you're trying to do. Each platform is useful for a variety of needs, but neither one does everything perfectly. Try both out with a blog on private mode and see which one feels better after a number of posts.
    1. AainaA
Yeah sure, but the Q is which is better ? So if we have say a thousand users who love WP.org and a thousand others prefering say blogspot, then would that be a tie?

We're here to learn, listen to some good ol' rock and roll ;-)
  35. azrael666
    blogger sucks. wordpress owns!
  36. bsilvia
    Self Hosted Wordpress.

Blogger? - just for a start or as a support blog for your main blog/website
