What does models, singers, athletes, construction workers, strippers, and farmers have in common? They all use their bodies to earn a living. The average U.S. worker provides some sort of physical activity for which they receive their income. Why should prostitution be any different?

[Should prostitution be officially legalized and taxed?]
Yes, and regulated to protect the prostitutes AND their clients.

Along with marijuana. It'll cut down on prison-over crowding and leave the jails for REAL criminals. Our tax dollars go to keep small time drug dealers/users in jail...

and most importantly, it'll boost the economy like crazy.

Just bare in mind that small time drug dealers can grew in time as well.

What if the form a cartel would that be a danger on the streets?

    marijuana drug cartel?

    Not likely.

and if it was legalized...dangerous drug dealers would no longer have business because people could get it legally and safely.

Are you stating that drugs is save ?

She is not stating drugs are safe she is making the sensible point that if you remove the high profit margins then you remove the criminal element.
It's like the prohibition of alcohol created Al Capone not alcohol.

Oldest profession in the world is not going to be stamped out because it's illegal...there will always be prostitutes as long as there are people who want to pay for sex. It should definitely be legalised so that everyone is safer and then the government can tax prostitutes...we're very behind...even the Romans realised this!

Yes, illegal stuff gets higher prices because demand is high and offer is low.
Simple market logic that does not work everytime. But it does work for drugs at least.

If it's not illegal, the offer will raise, thus making prices low and making it less profitable for drug dealers.

Prostitution? Legalizing it doesn't seem like the best idea, especially in South Africa. I blogged my thoughts about this:

      thinkinguhuru.blogspot.com/2009/11/legalized-prostitution-in-africa.html

Too many unanswered questions, too much freedom for trafficking in young girls and women to meet the demands of horny tourists.

Well, it's hard to say too much when you live in a state (Nevada) where a good portion of it includes legalized prostitution. Although outlawed in major metro areas like Las Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, etc., the service seems to be appreciated by tourists willing to drive outside country lines. There is no trafficking.

From what I understand (I wrote some articles about it, years ago), it's heavily regulated, especially in concern to health issues. However, most of the brothels contract the women, which means they are independent contractors (much like strippers).

I never had a problem with it until the brothels tried to advertise in Clark County) where it is illegal. It's not really something you want your kids to be exposed too as a viable career choice, you know.
