One of my favorite film makers from my childhood and teen years passed away yesterday. John Hughes was a native of Chicago's North Shore and gave us classic coming of age films.

In honor of his passing,

Please list your favorite John Hughes movie and your favorite quote from that movie.

I will start:

The Breakfast Club

"You see us as you want to see us - in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. You see us as a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal."

Mr. Hughes, we will miss you!

I'm going to sing, "I wanna be an airborne ranger" while running down the hall, later.

John Hughes loved this city and Shermer, Illinois (ie. Northbrook/Evanston, Illinois) is forever captured. Here was a guy who understood teenagers and didn't insult us.

Oh, I loved Hughes! I loved National Lampoon's Vacation.

What's a good line from that? Gosh--I can't remember! Too much time and too many drugs ago!

Audrey Griswold: "Mom, where can I go to the bathroom?"
Ellen Griswold: "Find a bush Audrey!"

      *Watching baseball game*

      Ed Rooney: "What's the score?"
      Pizza Joint Owner: "Nothin' nothin'."
Ed Rooney: [not really listening] "Who's winning?"
      Pizza Joint Owner: "The Bears."

I must confess that I haven't seen "16 candles" or "the breakfast club" or most of the "cult" movies made by Hughes. So, of the ones I did watch, "Home Alone" is my favorite.

    Sixteen Candles

Ginny: "I really love Rudy. He is totally enamored of me. I mean, I've had other men love me before, but not for six months in a row."
