I don't normally promote my posts and that's not exactly what I'm doing here. My purpose is to promote rethos.com.

rethos.com is a new social networking site that will launch on September 1st. The easiest way to describe it is MySpace with a conscience, a way to connect with other people who care about the same social and enviornmental issues that you are passionate about. It's a way to effectively harness your individual power and partner with others to make good things happen.

I'm interested to hear other people's thoughts about this. Will you join me?

Sounds interesting, though I would like to know more before signing up. The manifesto makes sense in any case. Simple premise: individuals can make a difference, including by how they spend their money. Since I don't get MySpace, I don't get this either, but I'm signing up to get email---at least for now.

      Stone,

I remember reading one of your comments about MySpace. I tend to agree for the most part and have almost completely abandoned my account there for various reasons.

I'm hoping rethos will live up to the hype.

It would be something I would be interested in joining since I run an Eco-friendly (Environmental Blog) It would be nice to be around like minded people. Of course people on BC are equally Socially conscious (just take a look around the discussion thread) but this would be all about social causes!

Like Stoneman... I would like to know more about it. I have joined a lot of social networks so what's one more? But managing it might be a whole different story. Is it similar to Care2 Network?

There are many socially aware and active people on BC. I didn't mean it to sound like there wasn't and we should abandon BC and run to rethos. I see it as a specialized forum in addition to BC and the others that already exist. I think it will fill a narrow niche for activists, like BC fills a niche for bloggers.

What do you mean, Blacksky? Do you think it's a marketing scam? I'm not sure either but reading their press they have a few big name academics behind them. I'd be interested to hear your thougths.
