Jon and Kate-exploitation?

For those who don't know, Jon and Kate plus 8 is a tv show about a couple who have 8 kids (6 are sextuplets).
Do you think Jon and Kate are exploiting their kids and are wrong for putting their children on parade on national tv?
My personal opinion is that although I would not put my family on a tv show, I can totally understand why Jon and Kate would do so, especially if it's only for a year or 2. 8 children are an enormous financial burden. They are getting $70,000 an episode times 40 episodes a year. That is some serious college money. I just can't fault them for wanting to provide for their family.

I think it started out as money to support their family and then turned into something much more ugly. I can't watch that show as I feel Kate is completely overbearing.-
I agree she is a little overbearing, but I don't think she is as bad as people make her out to be. From what I've heard about her (soon to be ex)husband, he's pretty exasperating. He is exactly like my ex-husband. Every time I see him, I'm glad to see him, but I soon remember why we couldn't stay married.

I think it was a great way for them to provide for their children so I don't feel like they've been exploiting their children. -
Too many children spoiled the romance.-
It's really sad. I bet they would have eventually divorced anyway, but I bet that many kids couldn't have helped the relationship.

Would all these reality TV shows condition us to accept the ubiquitous intrusion of cameras?

I think they reflect many families. They tell themselves they are doing the show for the kids, but I suspect they had their own motivations for doing it. And it appears they worked hard to appear to be and ideal family, only to discover there was more going on behind the cameras. I predict they will milk this separation for a season or two and then find a way to get back together. -
I think it is very exploitative of the children--I honestly hate these reality shows. They make me cringe.
What in the world is our culture coming to? -
I think people who take fertility drugs to get pregnant, knowing the possible outcome should be able to afford that outcome WITHOUT exploiting their children on TV. I also think it's lame (to say the least) when normal every day people become the obsesison of America. There are a million other more interesting or pressing things for the media to be concerned with but everyone is focused on the divorce of some chick with a wack hair doo and her timid ass husband.
The media makes me sick sometimes.-

I don't care how much money I was offered, I would never allow cameras in my home and around my children. If for no other reason than I look like hell in the mornings. -
Holy s**t I had no idea they made that much! I would totally do it. But I don't plan on having 8 kids.-
@dbowles...well if you're not going to have the 8 kids what will the plot of the show be...I am just curious this is not me being a smartass.

It will be called "Derek Is Awesome" and will based around my life, and awesomeness.

I'd watch, it would be better than most reality shows. Especially the train wreck shows on mtv.
I'd even follow the Derek is totally awesome twitters. Maybe I'd become your fan on facebook and dedicate myself to spreading the Derek is awesome word to the masses via a fanweb site aptly named Derek is awesome. -
