I'd have to go with Tom Baker cos thats the one I grew up with, also I loved his scarf and k9.

That's an interesting one! I can't admit to a preference - Jon Pertwee wins the nostalgia vote, but Tom Baker wins on eccentricity (scarf and jelly babies), sense of humour (remember when Jon Culshaw phoned him up on Dead Ringers?), and his voice (brilliantly imitated by Culshaw, and used to great effect on Little Britain).

wowee - a real celeb! I'm impressed. I just remember the monsters being scarrier in jon pertwee's era. It's a bit like the best james bond question... the best bond is the one you saw first at the cinema (Desmond L - Q)

Tom Baker by a royal mile. His son sells flowers on Koh Samui, Thailand btw. Did you meet K9 as well creatve and did Tom have his scarf on. Fact is Tom Baker was the voice of Little Britain, Pertwee (John or his son Sean) couldnt come close to that accolade..

How do we make the tardis sound fading away on the blog? Hmmm..

I think the bbc site /doctorwho has some sound downloads you can save to your pc - i used the 'scream' - the end note of the tune on my mobile for a bit.

DOn't you think David Tennant is like Tom Baker's portrayal / character?

Tom Baker, but I actually like the newer Doctors better. Torn a bit between my favorites there, really.

And by the way, that gas-mask episode totally freaked me out! Very creepy. Good stuff.

Out of the 2, Tom Baker, but they were all good in their own way.

Definitely Tom Baker, he had this 'something' that David Tennant also has...

My friend named her Sarah Jane, inspired by the show

Tom Baker, definitely. I loved his portrayal, K9, and Sara Jane Smith. I liked the original Romana much better that Lalla Ward's version, though.

David Tennant is the only one of the newer Doctors that comes close.

I also met Anthony Ainley...The Master...at a fan convention and he was very gracious.

Well I adored Patrick Troughton and then Tom Baker came along, he was brilliant. I must admit though David Tennant did a grand job.

Am with crkian I loved John Pertwee as Worzel Gummidge. Why does that never get repeated when everything else does endlessly?

I liked David Tennant. When I was little I was too scared to watch Dr Who,even the music sent me running to hide under the hall table!

Tom Baker hands down as Doctor Who.

John Pertwee, because when I was a baby he lived near us and would always tell my mum how beautiful I was. Tom baker used to freak me out so much when I watched Doctor Who I used to hide behind the sofa...for some reason I never had confidence that he could save us from the bad guys..
I really like David Tennant he plays a great Dr.
My children love Dr Who dvds. They are always on my shopping list when ever I come back to the U.K

So what do we make of this new guy - matt - I'll have to wait and see the first few episodes i think.

I loved them both. It's like apples and oranges. I liked Pertwee's style and panache. A man's man and gentleman to boot. I never noticed it at the time but Baker's Doc had a flaring temper. The first hint of a dark side to the Doctor. The Welsh fellow really started to bring it out. Also: the scarf WAS cool.

At least Tom Bakers scarf gave us all a pattern for home knitting - mine got turned into a sausage dog draft excluder for my nan's front door in the end....
