Just back from Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. Sorry I've been out of the loop so long. Anyone ever been to the parks before? They rock!

    Did you take pictures?
    1. gtally
Tons! But I need to set up a flickr account first before I start uploading.
    2. Anok
      Well get to it!
    3. gtally
I saw wolves! Twice! And a grizzly twice! The second time for the griz, he was across the river eating fresh kill. And he stood up on his hind legs. Amazing.
    4. harveyavatar
      Awesome,
When I was in the Pyrenees, a few days ago, I saw a mother boar and two baby boars.
    5. gtally
Hey, I wouldn't mind seeing that, too. My only regret is that I did not see a moose. I really, really like moose.
    6. gtally
I drank Moose Drool a couple of times in Montana. The stuff is awesome.
  2. WillIAm2009
Nope but watched a few programmes on them and they look rather cool!
  3. Epicharis
    I missed you
    1. gtally
Ditto. I missed all my sparring partners and BC peeps.
  4. Agit8r
You saw wolves?! Now THAT is worth clicking on!
    1. gtally
Yeah! One ran in front of my car at 1 AM in the morning in the Hayden Valley, and the other was standing right by the roadside just south of Norris Geyser Basin. I can't believe lightening struck twice for me. I was very, very lucky.
  5. Agit8r
Admit it GT! You're the celebrity assassin!
    1. gtally
You caught me. My real trip itinerary was Tampa, L.A. and Tehran.
    2. Agit8r
Tehran? What celebr... OH! that's messed up!
    3. gtally
No, no, no, not HER. I meant I was fomenting revolution! Bad gnome. Go sit in the corner.
    4. Agit8r
so you work for the CIA?

Good front... knew you were too smart to be an innkeeper though o_0
    5. gtally
After this week, I wish I worked for the Park Service. I would like being around the animals and telling stupid people what to do. "Hey Mister. You're ten feet away from that two ton bison that can run three times faster than you, at 35 miles per hour. Why don't you step a little closer, kay?" Seriously, I saw several people nearly get nominated for a Darwin Award dozens of times. All for a picture.
    6. Agit8r
you shot hours of video of them on the off chance that they would get gored, didn't you (o_0)
    7. gtally
I wouldn't waste the film on them. But a lady from Spain was gored by a bison while I was in the park. It snuck up on her while she was using a pay phone, then charged her and threw her in the air.

      www.westyellowstonenews.com/articles/2009/06/26/news/news2.txt

And she wasn't even provoking it. They're quirky, stubborn animals, bison. I think they have a wicked sense of humor. They caused several traffic jams simply by standing in the road. Why? Because they could!
    8. Agit8r
so they are kinda like panhandlers?

you could make a compilation of people being dumb around wildlife and call it "Chances With Wolves"
    9. gtally
Even better. They're like street toughs. They stand in the middle of the road because they don't give a crap. (Figuratively speaking. Literally speaking, they crap quite a bit).
    10. MidwestMom
I think he just wanted to use the phone. Maybe he had to call his broker.
  6. timethief
    OOOWW OOOWW OOWwwwoooooooooooo!

    Welcome back.
    1. gtally
Good to be here! Now if we could only teach those wolves and moose and grizzlies how to use the BC discussion board, my life would be complete.
  7. HollytheHousewife
Um,I don't get it ,but whateverrrrr, how ya been Gmoney?
    1. gtally
Teaching wild animals how to use the Internet... oh never mind. I thought it was funny. Doing O.K., Holly. And you?
    2. Agit8r
it's all good until they eat the "mouse"
    3. HollytheHousewife
I ok so u got to see wildlife, woohoo, sounds like fun. I'm gonna do that one day
  8. crpitt
    Pictures or it didn't happen.
    1. gtally
There will be pictures. But I did not get any decent photos of the wildlife. My point and shoot camera did not have a good enough zoom for that.
    2. crpitt
Any pictures will do! I have always wanted to go to Yellowstone
    3. gtally
Yeah. The Park is gorgeous and amazing, but secretly wants to kill visitors in dozens of nasty ways. Go before the place blows up in a super-volcano and kills us all.
    4. Agit8r
jeeze, you could just drop some stock photography in here to throw off the assassination investigators
    5. crpitt
      Still waiting
    6. crpitt
Obviously he is now feverishly photoshopping his little hotel onto someone else's holiday snaps, shame.
    7. gtally
I am working on my vacation pix now, but I won't start posting them until tomorrow.
  9. Friday13
What about lions and tigers and bears?
    1. gtally
Oh My! I did see bears twice in the park and once in Teton National Forest driving home. (See higher in the thread).
  10. Stillthinking
I'm jealous. You go on vacation a lot. Welcome back!
    1. gtally
Hey, ST. Great to hear from you! It was a very cool week.
    2. Floormodel
I was wondering where you'd gotten to. Welcome back!!
  11. HollytheHousewife
Well,I don't care if nobody believes you. It sounds like ya had a good time
    1. cookingasshole
      I still don't believe him
  12. HollytheHousewife
    And ur point would be
    1. cookingasshole
      I don't have one...
  13. HollytheHousewife
That's what I thought...still love ya tho my little monkey man
  14. HollytheHousewife
Well, ya know what? When all of this HOLLYtheHOUSEWIFE mess is over, and I have accomplished getting the american public their bailout, and have started a non-profit for people's homes in foreclosure. I told my girls that we are gonna move to hawii and I'm gonna let kendall throw my phone in the ocean and jayleigh is gonna throw my computer in the ocean.

I just can't wait for that day. It is gonna be a well deserved vacation
  15. ariwat
I would LOVE to visit Yellowstone! I bet it was amazing.

But I have an unfortunate phobia that if I visit, the volcano underneath the park would choose that time to blow up.
  16. HollytheHousewife
Well, that would be my luck to. If its our time 2 go it would definately be a hell of a way 2 go.
    1. ariwat
      I know, right?!
  17. chicky401
They are beautiful parks! I remember when I went to Wyoming we watched a car get destroyed by the buffalo in the buffalo crossing. The sign did say high congestion area do not block the buffalo crossing.
There was also a bridge that went over a river (I wish I could remember the river) and this bridge was over 1400 feet high. There was a sign on the bridge that said no jumping or fishing from the bridge LMAO!!! I swear it is true. I figure why put the sign? If you really think you can catch a fish that high (the raging river was as thin as a pencil you were so high up) then more power to ya! And if somebody was planning on jumping that sign is not going to stop them-there are stupid people but I do not believe that anybody is stupid enough to think they would survive that jump. They would have one thought on their mind if they were planning on jumping. It's called natural selection

My images are uploaded now! Here's the blue steam rising off the Grand Prismatic Spring:

    1. cookingasshole
      awesome shot!
    2. gtally
Hey, did you see that I had Moose Drool while in Montana? Ever had it before?
    3. Friday13
      That shot is squished!

    4. gtally
      Oops! My bad!
    5. cookingasshole
I have...I actually have a moose drool post!
    6. gtally
      BAM! Slap up a link!
    7. gtally
Have you ever tried Old Faithful Ale out of Jackson?
    8. Agit8r
      alright! who overdosed on chilli?!

Seriously, that pic is rank! prob'ly smells all sulfurous
    9. cookingasshole
I have not...I am assuming it is really good?

I have never even heard of it
    10. gtally
      It was all right.

      www.grandtetonbrewing.com/OFA.html

      I liked Moose Drool better.
    11. cookingasshole
I reviewed Bitch Creek double ESB from Grand Teton but it looks like the old faithful is just a nice light beer that is not bursting with flavor (intentionally)
    12. gtally
Yeah, it was somewhere between a Pale Ale and a Cerveza style beer. But I thought it had a bitter aftertaste.
    13. cookingasshole
after reading the description I would expect it to have a mildly bitter taste
    14. PaulineSalvucci
      Spectacular!!!!!!!!!!! More please.
    15. PaulineSalvucci
      Spectacular!!!!!!!!!!! More please.
  19. dcarroll
    Good that you saw them.

I live on Montana's Rocky Mountain Front, half way between Yellowstone and Glacier, and have wolves and grizzlies in our yard.

If everyone who comes to Montana and Wyoming need to see wolves and bears, we will have to import more meat for them. I'm not exaggerating.
    1. gtally
      Let them eat the tourists.
    2. chicky401
      Natural selection
  20. legbamel
I'm so jealous, but I'm glad to see you back in the fold.
    1. gtally
I am already planning a weekend day drive up to the North Park area in north central Colorado. I never saw a moose in Yellowstone and I was bummed about it. I like moose. But there are about a thousand of them in and around the western part of Rocky Mountain National Park. This is only about two hours from my house. I can do it on one tank of gas. So watch out meeses, here I come!
    2. cookingasshole
      lucky son of a gun!
    3. gtally
Come on, ca! You're in the Pacific Northwest. That's moose country! Why not plan a day outing?
    4. cookingasshole
we are going to cour d'alene ID on thursday!
    5. gtally
Go to the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge

      www.fws.gov/kootenai/

That's near cour d'alene and they have moose watching.
    6. cookingasshole
      cool! thanks!
    7. gtally
CA, here's another resource page about the Selkirk Loop:

      www.selkirkloop.org/index.php?msid=4&scid=63
    8. legbamel
Sure, now I hate you both! I could see a herd of bison on a tank-of-gas round trip, but otherwise it'd be members of the rodent family and maybe a snake or two. No mountains, very few hills, and, well, a couple of decent fishing spots. (Well, I could go to the zoo...)
    9. gtally
What about birds? Birds are cool. Not everything has to be big shaggy megafauna.
    10. legbamel
Birds of prey are, indeed, cool. Blackbirds, sea gulls, and carrion eaters, however, are frightening. (Too much Hitchcock in my youth.)
    11. Agit8r
we've had a young bull moose in the area (so says the father-in-law) that seems to have wandered over from Turnbull NWR. I'm hoping it doesn't take a liking to our garden
  21. crpitt
    More pictures!
    1. crpitt
      Whoa really cool shots
    2. legbamel
I read that as "cool shorts" and I was all excited to see GTally's legs. [sigh]
    3. crpitt
      You are such a perv!
    4. legbamel
I was only excited on your behalf, of course.
    5. crpitt
      A likely story..... my arse.
    6. legbamel
I was excited on behalf of your arse?
    7. crpitt
      Word play..My Arse
    8. Agit8r
Word! thanks for the offer... maybe another time
    9. crpitt
      Burned by my own buffoonery.
    10. Agit8r
      hehe.. I couldn't resist

Cyanobacteria, extremophiles living on the edge of a boiling hot spring and emptying into the Firehole River:

    1. MidwestMom
That looks like a view from space... Apparently, after Tehran, you went to Mars.

(Welcome back... I wondered where you were and missed your friendly looking inn avatar.)
    2. gtally
      Thanks, MM.

Here's the travertine pools of the Upper Terrace at Mammoth Hot Springs:

    3. cookingasshole
you are a good picture taker
    4. gtally
I points and I clicks. Not much to it.
    5. cookingasshole
If that is the case, your camera is seriously ill
    6. gtally
No doubt about it. It needs professional help.
  23. dbowles1017
Wow. Nice shots. I have always wanted to go there.
  24. gtally
Up close an personal with a bison!

    1. HeadStones
My hubby would have loved that. Bison are his fave. Would love to see the wolves in the wiled my self though. Glad you had a great time. Hope you have many more. And thanks for all the great pics.
  25. londoniscool
I seen a fox the other day, walking down Kilburn High Road in London, stalking it's next meal, which was little pussy cat..........
