Just Venting: I've Been Spoofed, I Think

It's been a while since this happened.
My email account is full of failed attempts to send mail to a non-existent address on my domain
Why I'm getting the failure notices, considering that the things seem to have an Italian origin, I don't know. I suspect that someone managed to convince a mail server that my domain was sending the things, somewhere along the line.
Anyone with expertise have an informed opinion? Thanks.
Here's the start of one of the things:
"Subject:
A Warning: could not send message for past 4 hours
From:
Mail Delivery Subsystem (Add as Preferred Sender) ?
Date: Fri, May 09, 2008 12:27 pm

It's rather simple to spoof a FROM address and not much you can do about it:
