Point taken...lol.
To be straight to the point (straight used VERY loosly in regard to West himself)...I think he has allowed sucess and a large following to completely overshadow his integrity. I know people all say, "well i like his music.." etc and what he did has nothing to do with that. But I think at some point, we have to hold our "entertainers" to a higher standard than just faceless puppet monkeys who come out ant dance for us and go back into their box. In 2009 their were more celebrities who graced the covers of fashion and fitness magazines than actual models. There are more celebrity endorsed products now than ever. Celebs get involved in everything from politics to world hunger issues. But people turn a blind ear and eye to the degrading actions they feel they can dish out, because they KNOW their fans don't mind having their intellegence questions and undervalued. Kanye did that to get attention. MTV could have pulled the plug and cut to commercial, but they didn't for the same reason television is even around...MONEY.
I expect nothing less from any televised or sponsored event. -

Woo, big Pictures!
Kanye is awesome! So he let his ego get in the way. Swift is handling it gracefully, he's eating humble pie. Her record sales will soar, his record sales will probably soar, anyway. So what? His overconfidence, though irritating at times, has gotten him further than many of us. Swift's confidence in herself to not let this get to her too much could take her far, too. She went and performed later and did an excellent job. How many of us wish we could be honest like that and that's why this issue has prompted such a strong response. So he broke the "rules" of conduct. It's about time. The music industry has gotten so boooring.-
"The music industry has gotten so booring.."
Epic FAIL. No it hasn't Kanye West is not an example of the music industry as a whole. He is an example of the MTV machine as a brand. He makes his money through attention seeking gags. There are FAR more exciting bands and musicians than Kanye...and trust me, you won't be seeing them at the VMA's anytime soon. -
Lotus, you said that perfectly!
What Kanye did isn't something to be proud of. Not at all. It was just humiliating towards Taylor. He should have kept his opinion who has a better music vid to himself. It has happened before that people were amazed about the winner, at least I was haha. What did he really accomplished with this action? I don't know *sighs*

@lotusb The music industry I am speaking of is the small mainstream one represented at the VMA's. I do think, however, that Kanye West's music, particularly his early stuff like "College Dropout," was fairly outstanding. His later stuff I don't like as much or I just feel pretty neutral about. Back to the VMA's: I mean if Kanye is saying Beyonce's video was the best, not knocking her work at all, but come on, now. While it was a fun video IMHO it wasn't the best but that's just my opinion. (Though I'm sure watching her dance was eye candy for many) Do I think Taylor Swift's was the best either? -no to that, too. All I'm saying is that incidents like these jazz mainstream music up. Back in the day all the listener required was good well made music to go buy it. Now we need scandal or pity (How many pity sales is Taylor going to get after this?) to go buy someone's music and not necessarily because we genuinely liked it. He apologized and she accepted it. What more can we expect after he did what he did? I'm not a big fan of people apologizing more than once (which he already has) I'm sure there'll be repercussions for him. Kill the videos. Where's the music?
