knife in velvet sheath, how do you tackle them?

We all meet them, some of us once in a while, and some of us too many times.
people who befriend us to satisfy their jealousy and then try to destroy our self confidence or confidence on our works.
how do you deal with these guys? you know very well that they mean harm but they speak so sweetly that you cant hammer them?

  if that means back stabbers, yes i dont like them near me,
  and will love if they respect my liking
  if i have a problem with a person i keep away from him/her
  i dont believe in changing or bothering him.

I don't feel the need to hammer them because I don't get involved with them too much. Those red flags are there if people keep their eyes open and don't rationalize it away because either NEED a friend or they NEED the flattery these types dish out.

As for the statement you made about knowing they mean harm, all the more reason not to engage them or bother with them.
