The laser was invented on this date in 1960!

I read it on the Web!

Then, I did a little nosing around. Sure enough, a milestone was passed on May 16, 1960: and that's important.

What's funny is the number of camps I found online, each with their own version of what 'really' happened.

Jockeying for credit aside, there's an interesting bit of science/technology history here.

    You mean we've had the laser for 48 years now...

    Where the hell is my laser gun then... I mean - it took only about 15 years after the invention of smokeless powder to get basic automatic weapons that became the template for modern weapons...

    ... I want my ray gun.

    And speaking of ray guns....

    Where's all the flying cars... and jet packs... and food pills... that were supposed to happen by 2000?
