Since I shaved my head last year I have had seriously bad lesbian hair...right now I'm at a Sandy Toksvig stage!

What is meant by 'lesbian hair' is a hairstyle that usually only lesbians wear. Obviously it's a stereotype...but you rarely see non-lesbians with those hairstyles..

Well when I think lesbian i think boy hair and peach fuzz on the face.
Unfortunately i've only ever met one lesbian in my life that looked like the ones in the movies.
I do have a gaydar - but perhaps its not tuned into lesbians unless they are completely obvious -
Maybe lesbians in New Zealand like the girlie look.

Oh ok Sam. I've seen all types. I've actually been inside jails and prison (no I did not serve time) and I've seen the full gammet of different lesbian looks.

The way I saw it though, homosexuality in prisons was more of a do or die situation, and more to do with "pecking" order rather than genuine affection for one another, so i can understand the variation there.
Hardcore lesbians - I mean that in the nicest possible way, as In ones that are really obvious and proud, and rather than not liking men because its not their sexual preference actually hate men and think they're scum etc etc. A non hardcore lesbian would be one that would not be picked up on the radar because they're not blatantly advertising their sexuality

I also choose to have very short hair. Remarkbly, lesbians who propositioned me took "no" for an answer with grace and dignity and that was that. But hetro men don't and just keep on trying until you get really rude with them. I wonder why that is?

Are you talking about the buzz cut/mullet look that was popular among lesbians back in the 80's?
In my experience, that's a thing of the past (fortunately--if only the country music/monster truck crowd would get the message about mullets)--the lesbians I know have as wide an array of hairstyles as hetero women....-
not all lesbians have lesbian hair...but there are some lesbian styles that are still about.

it didn't when I had long hair...but once I cut it off I realised how much unnecessary hassle it was! longest I've had it in 6 years is shoulder length.

Oh, yeah...the hassle factor. I have long hair now because it's actually less of a hassle for me than when I had short hair. My hair is curly and it's very hard to tame when short.

Well in my case a perm would be catastrophic. I guess I'll have to be the little old lady with her hair up in a bun.
