Let's talk about helping Haiti, Cuba, and other Caribbean islands

Topics: caribbean, hurricans, storms
Some BC members may not be aware that the various hurricanes and tropical storms lashing the Caribbean have killed hundreds, destroyed thousands of homes, and reduced essential infrastructure to levels that will take years to rebuild, from washed away roads, to power lines and telecommunications services that no longer exist.
Here in Spain the Red Cross and other charities are actively collecting money to help, with Haiti and Cuba being the countries most in need. I've given as much as I can aford this month, but I'd be interested in hearing from people who are in Cuba or other parts of the Caribbean. Is there anything more we can do other than donate money to charities operating in your countries?

Going on sites like MyGiving, Six Degrees and Committment may help to direct you but the Red Cross and Salvation Army are tried and true and are known for actually making it on the ground in affected areas.
Great on your giving, it is so important!

Thank you for taking the time to comment Houseonahill. The Salvation Army aren't a very big group in Spain, although as a kid in other countries I used to give to them exclusively because they actually do care and they have feet on the ground. Not sure if they're represented in Cuba, but I'd assume they'd be elsewhere in the Caribbean.
