   Sometimes, it's harder to let go of a relationship that was never quite right than it is one that worked well. That sounds backward, but it happens across all sorts of relationships, not just romantic ones. For instance, people who have been abused and neglected by their parents often have a harder time separating from them and moving on because they never got what they needed from them.

   I agree with you on abusive relationships. My ex's parents definately abused him while he was growing up. I wouldn't even let them in my house,they have never met my girls and hopefully never will.
   Ted still goes over to their house,and I can't fig out why...

   hmm.. because often there are other factors that contribute to it not working besides " just not meant to be" so if you value the person and identify and address those factors sometimes it turns out that everything is fine. I always viewed the "meant to be" and "not meant" to be logic as lazy.

   Because of the investment of time and energy you've already made in the relationship. You hate to see it all go down the drain. And also because it's less daunting to stay even in a flawed relationship than have to go through the turmoil of starting all over again.
