   You're right. America is on the way out as an economic and industrial super power. With all of the different variables factoring into it (housing collapse, trade deficit, huge debt bubble, dropping dollar, the Fed's policies, etc) the coming recession is more likely to be a *depression.* Things may get really bad for a while too, but I don't think it will end humanity. I have too much faith in us.
   
   The History channel special looks interesting though.

   I've always assumed that people were totally unaware of the growing corporatism this country, bordering on fascism. I assume most are unaware of it or surely they would have done something before now to try to get their country back. The the people have the power to take it back if they would only pay attention and stop worrying so much about celebrities. Our elections are bought and sold, and the country is run by a select group of power elite. We have allowed it by our complacency.
   The middle class has quietly disappeared, the American dream is gone. Henceforth the likelihood of your children here being better off and more educated than you is considerably less than it was a generation ago.
   
   This country is in for a sad awakening. It may be too late for all I know.

   I just went to the History Channel website to see the trailer: www.history.com/minisites/life_after_people/ - I will go ahead and TiVO "Life After People" simply because I think it is an interesting concept, given the example of Chernobyl.
   
   @Scholarpreneur, the US is on the verge of a financial crisis, affecting not just the subprime mortgage population. Financial services are experiencing great losses and the stock market is tumbling downwards even as I write this. Our nation has long spent beyond their means and now we are soon going to pay for it.

   @MOTG: I have asked this before with no response, so I will ask again: WHY would an "elite" group wants to wipe out 80% of the population? For what purpose? I find this unlikely. MOTG, please share your sources, other than conspiracy sites.

      Yes I did see Aaron Russo's Freedom to Fascism and it is an eye opener. Aaron Russo was friends with Alex Jones. Aaron passed away sadly last year of heart diease I believe. Aaron was a Hollywood producer too.

      Interesting. I did not know they knew each other. Some friends and I saw Freedom to Fascism and it was an eye opener about the Federal Reserve Bank and more. I had no idea.

   Voluntarily reducing the population? Sounds like their trying to make their case for abortion or the murder of babies in the womb.
   
   Washington: Zero population growth is the solution. How? For starters, eliminate the federal tax credits for kids. Impose taxes on families who decide to have kids. Let them bear the cost of educating them themselves.
   
   This above statement is scary and very narcissist to say the least. It also proves to me that these humans who think they can "control" the carbon footprint(which is a bunch of BS) also think it is their right to play the role of God. The God of the Universe, who created this world to outlast all His creations, Big or Small.
   
   You know, in 1992 and 1993, I took two ecology classes at my local JC in Walnut, CA. The books I had to read talked about ZPG or Zero Poulation Growth and the need to reduce the human population. The author was not shy about telling the world how he felt the world should be. It seems his POV has only gotten worse and this POV has gone way back to the early 1900's, if not earlier.
