Do links from web directories help to increase the rank in Google or Alexa ?

    Not as much as it use to but it still will count as a "vote" in Google's eyes.

    Two sides of the story and only google knows But a few months ago google really down played any links on Free directories as people where just slamming them for a PR ranking. From what I hear now directory submitting is a waste of time. The same time and effort would be better spend reading others blogs and then commenting and linking it back to your blog plus your more apt to get visitors then with a directory.

      That is a good point. Commenting on related blogs (especially ones that "Do follow") will be more beneficial. Article submitting is another way but that is another story since you have to write the articles yourself to be unique.

    I agree directory submission is a waste of time and in most cases expensive, also most of the pages/categories in directories never get listed.

    Yes getting rank well by visiting other people blog and commented professionally will have impact to our reputations.Takes times, though it's worth it

    the best thing to do is to comment on blogs, subscribe to social networks and forums.
