Do you think it's possible to maintain a relationship that is long distance for 6 months or so?

If so what advice would give to a couple embarking on such a relationship?

I think it is possible, several of my friends have partners in the armed forces. It has worked out well for some better than others. I suppose it depends on where you are in life and if it is worth the effort.

I think it's always difficult, but depends on what stage in the relationship the separation happens.

Established relationships have a better chance, as there is already more history there to keep the people connected. Newer relationships probably have much less chance of succeeding.

I'm sure some couples can make it work with a lot of patience and compromise. I am a touchy-feely person and I know I could never do a long distance relationship.

I have tried the long distance thing and it didn't work and I don't plan on doing it again. If and only if both people are willing to stay true to one another then I say give it a shot.

back in my army wife hayday I maintained a relationship for 6 years with 2 18 month deployments in between and not living together when he was stateside... so yes it is possible depending on the level of loyalty involved

It sucks, but it's doable. You have to really make an effort for it to work. But it's worth it.
