I'm doing a series of posts called Chain Fiction, where I start the beginning of a story and I ask other bloggers to add their own parts on their own blogs. Each part is only 250-500 words. The end result will be stories written by several people and that have several possible outcomes.

This gives writers and those interested in writing a chance to connect and increases the visibility of your blog. Each month a new story chain will be created.

The instructions can be found here: gregswritingblog.blogspot.com/2007/05/chain-fiction-introduction.html

And the first monthly installment can be found here: gregswritingblog.blogspot.com/2007/05/chain-fiction-one-part-1.html

Ooh, this sounds like a really cool idea. I've seen it done in small groups, but a communal story open to anyone who cares to add to it could get really interesting.

    hey Greg

That's so kool... but guess what? Perhaps it's a good idea to keep the word-limit to 50 to 100 words...

I've participated in such stories with friends from googlewhack.com (remember? now the googlewhack is well past 270,000, I think)

I'd say that a shorter word-limit or no limit at all encourages more people to chip in....

Great idea! I will send out a notice about your site to my writer friends.

There is a limit on the number of parts (8-10). I'm going for a standard short story of about 2500-5000 words. But since writers can add on to any part that isn't their own, we can potentially have a bunch of stories that start with the same opening.

took a look... and felt lost yet intimated but I *am* looking to flex my writing muscles, so maybe I'll try my hand at the *next* month's installment :-)

Ok. A new installment is up at gregswritingblog.blogspot.com/2007/06/chain-fiction-two-part-1.html

This is for fun and practice so don't feel it has to be perfect. Don't forget that you can always add to any month as many times as you like.
