I had gastric bypass 4 years ago and I've lost over 200 lbs and now it's the loose skin that is really getting me down. Besides Plastic surgery..there is nothing that can be done. I have ways to try and cover it..but was wondering how do other people with similar problems camouflage it?

I talk about life after weight loss surgery in my blog.

congratulations on the loss. Is the plastic surgery expensive or covered by insurance at all?

More than likely not..is what I've been told. It depends on the Plastic suregon too ..how willing are they to pursue insurance coverage? Most of them all want their money up front. Bummer..

Also..I'm still trying to deal with the courage to even go for a consultation! You stand there in a paper diaper more or less as the PS looks you over..ugh..

Plus having another surgery..the trauma to the body..the risk of infection..it is all scary stuff..the weight loss surgery was to save my life in the long run and improve the quality of my life. PS looking at it starkly is about my vanity..am I willing to risk my life for that? I'm still searching inside myself for that answer..

    Ran across this: www.bodyfatguide.com/LooseSkin.htm

It may offer some suggestions? I didn't read the entire site, but there are some links/information listed that wouldn't hurt to read.

Congrats to you for losing so much weight! Great job!! :*)

you need to lose 15kgs below your ideal weight for the loose skin to tighten, I lost 53kgs and thats what I was told and did and it worked

But how to you determine your ideal weight?
    2. samfreedom
First of all, Elaine, make sure to verify that statement with a qualified doctor. Secondly, to determine your ideal weight accurately, you can call around to local health clubs or fitness centers and ask where you can get hydrostatic weighingL

      www.wisegeek.com/what-is-hydrostatic-weighing.htm

It's the most accurate means available today. You can get pretty close by other methods but the Hydrostatic method is spot on and just removes all doubts.

As for tightening up some loose skin, just consult with a plastic surgeon. The sooner you do it, the better you'll feel assuming everything goes off without a hitch.

      Best..

I have loose skin after two pergnancies. It's is not visible for an outsider, but I know it and feel uncomfortable. I would love to tighten it so that it would be like on a teenager again

I feel you on this one! I was the fat kid when I was younger and lost quite a bit of weight as well. But I still have the flabby stomach skin. If you find a way other than surgery let me know.

    Congrats on the weight loss!

I will..but I'm thinking honestly PS will end up being the only answer. I just worry about risk of infection etc..

Good job on your weight loss..it's not easy..that is for sure!
