You can make a baked potato in a microwave oven. Has anyone ever tried it? It only takes a few minutes and taste great. If anyone has it, let me know how it came out.

We do that all the time. I groe potatos and the kids love to bake them or boil them in the microave all the time. They add cheese, ham, onion, chili the list goes on and on and on.

So I guess the word is out. I actually never knew you can do it until now. It is a very healthy food.

yes but be careful we have had a few explode. But the options are really big as what to add to them.

I used to do it before I knew better & researched a little deeper for my book. Here are a few things you may want to know about your microwaved food.

*Microwaving meat created the cancer causing agent d-nitrosodiethanolamine
*Microwaving milk and cereal grains produced cancer causing compounds in the proteins
    * Microwaving / thawing of frozen fruits leads to alterations in the normal breakdown of sugars
    * Cancer causing free radicals were formed in the mineral compounds of vegetables cooked or thawed in a microwave. Especially root vegetables.
    * Digestive system disorders are attributed to the elemental food changes due to the catabolic effects of microwaved foods.
    * Persons eating microwaved food have higher incidence of stomach and intestinal cancers
    * Eating micro waved food caused a higher percentage of cancerous cells in the blood
    * White blood cells counts become lower after eating microwaved food making you immune system less effective leaving your body more vulnerable.

Sorry for the downer but thought it was relevant and perhaps helpful.

I know most of this, but if I'm going to worry about everything that's bad in modern society, I might as well stop breathing now.

I understand. Just thought you might like to know. Taking a little extra time to just slice and boil the potatoes really wont take but a few minutes more.

We only use the microwave to pop popcorn, bake potatoes and warm coffee. I do not cook in it and my family doesnt eat left overs but for beans and they get heated up on the stove. But that is good info to have. I will pass that on to my microwave loving friends and family

I hate to say it but in my twenties I was using it every day. I was single, working 12 days & working out religiously so for me it was time efficient. In retrospect I know that it had contributed to some digestive problems and hopefully nothing worse.

I have known people who have used microwave ovens since 1980 and before. Over 30 years almost now. I have never heard of any health problems from them. I use it all the time. I think I had mine over 10 years now.

George Burns smoked cigars and lived to 100. There are people who will have problems and people who won't. Over time many will. How long that will be and who has them is the question that is only answered by playing the roulette game.

I would think the food in a microwave would have less chance of health problems because you can't "burn" it like in an oven if you cook it too long. I don't see any safety problems with them. Bacon also is safer to cook in it then on a stove.

You are so correct. The microwaved baked potato is a very quick and very healthy choice. Just take the potato, spike some holes in the top with a fork, wrap it in wax paper, and microwave it a few minutes. Now, it can become unhealthy depending on what you add to it. I like to use fat free margarine, fat free sour cream, fat free shredded cheese, and ultra low fat chili. Good, good, good! I talk about such things on my the Culinary Corner portion of my main blog (independentrage.blogspot.com/). I've lost a fair amount of weight and have completely turned around my health by adhering to a very low saturated fat diet the past few years.
