Making sense of AdSense

Topics: adsense, keywords, Marketing
I see a lot of posts from people asking about why they aren't making any money from adsense. It can be confusing when some people state that they are seeing profits of a few dollars a day from just one or two clicks, while others are only making pennies a day from one or two clicks.
The reality of adsense is that different keywords pay different amounts of money. There are certain keywords which pay more than $10 PER click. Some even pay well above this per click - understanding keywords and how to place them in your posts to make the most of adsense is important and you can find many good books on this specific topic at any Borders or Barnes & Noble.
Some examples of higher earning keywords are:
keyword placement
seo
search engine optimization
These specific keywords can pay over a few dollars per click because competition among advertisers is higher in these categories.
If your website or blog is about a topic that isn't very well known and doesn't relate to anything that advertisers want to sell, you will probably end up with ads that are worth relatively little per click.
My blog on fashion, photography, and business (itsjustlight.com) features ads which correspond to decently earning keywords, but if I had a popular blog about say...rolex watches, I might earn even more.
Another thing about adsense that seems to confuse a lot of people is why ads on their pages often have nothing to do with what their web page is about. 5,000 daily visitors doesn't mean a thing if your blog is about one thing, while your ads are related to an entirely different topic. Visitors who come to your blog to read about pet goldfish probably won't click on ads about Las Vegas hotel vacations.
It's important to learn how to use keywords to your advantage so that the ads on your site are actually of interest to your readers. Again, do some research at your local bookstore and you will find the answers. It takes a little time to learn how to make the most of adsense, but if you put in a little effort you will find yourself earning more.

I agree, also my bloggers blog has a programme available for download, to assist you with finding targeted keywords. It works well.
You need to pick up a lot of search engine traffic also, blog traffic on it's own will not do very well with adsense. Best to target potential buyers then temot them with ads to click, to put it simply. -

thanks for sharing
my blog is ericfootnote.blogspot.com
there I write notes about my learn creating a blog and adsense -
For sure, I got once 9$ for a single click. As for Rolex Page, I have given a precise example on my blog, it earns a stunning 100$ per month:

Writing targeting content is worth only for valuable keywords or better spend time throwing words at random that's why I tried in fact and earned me some money ( about 80$ per month ) but now choose to refine the process. -
The best site I have found that explains adsense and how to make money with adsense is here:

Making Cents Of Adsense...... yep, that's about what you're going to make... How much energy could possibly go into something that pays so little when you're focused on the ads.
Forget the ads.
Put the darned code on your blog.... and invest all this time and energy into writing something people will want to come read.
You can't manipulate the system.... If you beat your readers to death with ads, they'll leave. They aren't there to click your ads. They don't need your ads, they don't want your ads. They can find ads elsewhere...
Why should they visit YOU?
You can only slice a pizza so many ways before you finally realize it's the ingredients that matter..... not the way you slice it.
Sorry for my little rant... but seriously....
I'm not sure ads should seriously be fussed over until you are getting 5,000 readers a day or more...
THEN maybe begin getting serious about ads.
In the month of April, I will end up with about 300,000 pageloads to my site.
Even THAT is barely worth fussing over ads....
Focus on content.. Get yourself an audience... a daily audience.
THEN maybe..... if you're really really bored..... go ahead and get super analytical about ads.-
I think you missed the point of this post
Also, it's not as if one can't focus on content AND making a profit at the same time. Obviously good content is a necessity for bringing in repeat visitors, but there is not reason one can't monetize their blog successfully, regardless of how many visitors they get per month.
300,000 pageloads per month is barely worth fussing over? I'm not sure what sort of topic your blog is about, but assuming only 1% of visitors click ads, and assuming the average ad is worth 50 cents, that is $1,500 per month. Seems worth fussing over to me. -
I'm not missing the point, I'm making a counter point. When I started out, I had 500 pageloads per day - similar to many other beginning bloggers. But I got my mind off the ads and worked towards traffic. I honestly think a lot of beginning bloggers work backwards.
If you want to make money with blogging, really, the first step is to forget the money - because you can usually make more in an hour working at McDonalds than you can with an hour of blogging.
And the 300,000 PPM I'm referring to does not typically step up your click ratio incrementally like you're thinking. I have never seen a $1,000 check or anything close to that.
Here are my stats over the last month
www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=sm8dannyvice&r=12
I have both adsense and adbright and even combined, my earnings don't total the numbers you are thinking...
The point I'm driving at is to put ad revenue on a back burner to your content and blog promotion.
Go to a busy forum somewhere, make a brilliant comment and then drop your link. People will come see who made that brilliant comment.
If you focus on that, the traffic will come and the ad revenue will start taking care of itself.

I haven't been making money with adsense, despite hearing people saying they make money everyday.
here is my blog, review it to see if there is anything wrong, pls comment if necessary.

dantos.
If I had a nickel for every time someone eggagerated what they make on adsense, I wouldn't need to put ads on my blog.
I'm being sincere when I say this. I've seen the same person brag about making $200 per month one day, brag about making $100 per month the next day... and then post a comment a few days later claiming they weren't making any money on Adsense - asking for help.
For whatever reason, people have a big need impress people with this number, when it's completely uneccessary.
I get a lot of traffic.... but who cares. I still could make more working a job at burger king than I get from those ads.
You really pretty much have to do one of two things before ad revenue become worth all the fuss (imho)
1. Start getting a half million viewers per say...Blogs like FARK and Smoking Gun for example.
2. Start selling the ads yourself instead of using 3rd party providers (but there are few of them to be found)...

Not sure how to get lots of traffic either - I Google at the top for Worlds Best Films, but no one clicks any ads, not even to support the site.. if just 1 in 10 exited by way of an ad, I could survive!
