By the end of the week Michael Jackson will suddenly have lots of people saying how much they loved him.

It was only a short time ago that media gave him hell over child abuse allegations, and also many people didn't want to know about him and constantly made jokes.

Today he's dead and the media is saying how wonderful he was.

Human nature is an odd thing

Don't expect to hear any other news for the next few weeks at least.

an american actor died in new zealand this morning,

If you mean Jeff Goldblum, that's a fake report.

I havent heard the NZ one, it must be a bit of mis-information

I never gave a shit about him when he was alive. Being dead won't change that. But I try to be consistent.

      I'm with you.

I personally have been a lifelong fan. My family have all been and I have very happy memories to the tune of his music. Yes, your consistent...but a little but of an ass too. Lol...u can not give a shit quietly...

Can but won't. My comments were in line with the discussion. While most people are shallow and fickle, rushing to be nice to the corpse of the man they hated, I maintain a consistent level of disinterest.

I enjoyed Thriller...that's about it. Shame to hear what happened since he was about to go on tour again.

I actually wrote a creative nonfiction essay about my first encounter with him, years ago... ... and just posted it. I actually went the opposite direction... when everyone loved him, I disliked him... when everyone loved to hate him, I learned to love him.
Man Made Gods. RIP Michael Jackson. Forgive Us, For we know not what we do.

It took less than 30 minutes for his "friends" to show up; Reverend Al Sharpton and Demi Moore (not confirmed but apparently she showed up in his house). And yes, the media is already portraying him like a good man that suffered a lot in his childhood, that cared a lot about children (o_O), etc. I give him his artistic qualities, no doubt he was a pop-star and I like his music but as a person, I don't know.

I totally agree with you acousticguitarist... But this is really such a great loss He was and forever will be THE best entertainer in world. So many artists in the world today copied his moves, remake his songs, inspired by so much he gave to the music world. This is so sad, really.. What a tragedy

Truth to tell I am never a Michael Jackson fan . I only love 'One Day in your life' from 1975. Just one song. I against everything he stood for. But yes I feel what freeatlast feels about this whole thing. He is after all a tortured soul. And with that we are with him on that. Makes me care for the guys a little bit.
    1. freeatlast
yes... I think he was very talented and definitely defined a generation, musically. But ultimately, though I know celebrities are free willed humans who often choose the path of self destruction, I'm constantly amazed at how much we, the audience, have to do with their demise... it's like watching a sacrificial lamb brought to the slaughter... not pretty, and not necessarily something to be proud of as the audience.

I see him as being unbelievably cool, as thats how my mother saw him. When she was jsut discovering music, she saw him.

    Especially at the beginning.

And I think he did really well. As my mother never believed any of the claims, I never made any jokes in school, or participated in them. I voiced the fact that people were too eager to jump on the bandwagon and make easy jokes at an easy target.

And while I thought he was such a freak, it was kind of like something that does not exist anymore. I'd imagine there were wierd people like him hundreds/ thousands of years ago, that would be talked about, and be legendary. Nutters like blackbeard, who was arrested with 17 bullets in him, holding his guts in with his hands, still fighting, in a drunken blood rage.

    It was kind of amazing.

Acoustic guitarist, you raise such a good point, I think many of us could of forgot ourselves without it.

Eh, I always liked him, though Billy Jean came out three years before I was born, I always thought he was a musical genius. I never thought he was guilty just wacko, especially by the time I became familiar with him, and he was after all acquitted.

I bet there are going to be hundreds of people trying to capilizeon his death though.

    May he RIP.

I love his song black and white and they don't care about us.

which mean we must accept friends start from now and not after someone death. just like in Tv reality show when someone enter the show and comes to final then someone start to claim that the person was his friends

Ok I own the Thriller albulm (actually a record) but I never really liked anything he put out as music. And why are there around 100 people outside the hospital where he is. Do they think he will rise again? He is not that good.
  14. hatingtherain
    nevermind.

    It simply isn't worth it.

Even if you don't like the artist, you have to realize that this curious man started and influences so many countless things. It's like Elvis, you might not personally like the guy, but you can't really deny his reach. I mean the guy practically launched MTV.

And I think it would be very pathetic of a whole people if he was remembered in a negative media angle.
    1. hatingtherain
It's totally NOT worth it for me to get into this!!!

I'm trying very hard to restrain myself...
    2. hatingtherain
Ok, I will give you this:

He was a good singer, but people should not forget the bad things about him, and turn him into some Godlike figure, which is what's bound to happen.
    3. freshtunesfinland
My point is simply that I don't really care about the person, even though you're right that he will be idolized, but so are all late celebrities and idols. I don't really care about what he did or did not do in his personal life, that's for him and his close ones. I simply think some of his achievements have pushed music forward for decades, and that alone is respectable.
    4. acousticguitarist
very true, he was a very good performer who created a platform for some great musicians to express themselves. The guitar part in Billy Jean is awesome.
  16. osmkt
I grew up listening to his music...Billy Jean, Thriller, Beat it were on top of Billboard that time. I don't care about his life, I only care about his music.

So sad. I really hope it's just a huge sick publicity stunt for his new world tour.

am in shock. i did not think he would be able to pull this summer off, but i did not know he was so fragile. genius destroyed and now gone. i hope he has now found peace. and i hope i can manage to stomach the same media who pulled him down now crawling all over the story and simply dismissing their previous actions as part of "the controversy surrounding Jackson's personal life in latter years".
    1. legbamel
It is very sad. Certainly, there were a million horrible stories and people assume the worst about him, but he really was a talented songwriter and musician. I don't think I've really loved a song of his since the 80s, but I still have my old records and have been listening to his songs all of my life.

Regardless of his idiosyncrasies, bizarre personality traits, and well the accusations he was considered one of the most successful, influential artist in the Music Industry.

Regardless of his talents and history, as a human, it is shame his life was cut short.
    1. jafabrit
Yes, a sad end for a sad person. I remember his talent but sadly his behaviour soured me to ever supporting his career.
  21. DeadRooster
You guys act like, just because he's dead, you'll never see him again. I JUST saw him on Twitter this morning:

  22. endopicky
    I'm sorry to hear that..
  23. Epicharis
It's interesting to see that even the people here are all very sad he's dead, when I remember on several occasions on BC people have called him a child-molester and monster, saying that he ought to physically harmed. They rebuffed my argument that he was found innocent, and that if he was innocent imagine how awful it must be for him.

I've always found it disgusting how people will treat the living so badly but once they are dead and it doesn't count they start to treat them like humans.
  24. melindaville
I really never cared about Michael Jackson--although his bizarre behavior was somewhat entertaining toward the end of his life. I was not into his music--I was much more comfortable with the angst of early punk.

He was no thriller to me.
