i read somewhere that money can buy you happiness depending on what side of the world you are living...if you come from a developing country like ours, of course, the main basic thing that each person will think of is money to buy you food...if you are living in a developed/advanced country, i think it is otherwise...what do you think? what can you say about this?

I don't think that money can buy you happiness but it can buy you the freedom of time and with that time you are "FREE" to do whatever you want so just be happy.

It pays the bills. Once they're out the way I can sit back and contemplate my navel. All in all having money makes me happier than not having money

      Ahh... so true.
    2. Svelmoe
Indeed. I'm happier with money then I am without - thus money can buy happiness.

Can it buy all forms of happiness? Perhaps not, but it can buy many forms of it.

you need money to live, love, and be loved but you can't buy 'real love'!
    4. carlgalloway
real love is the kind you get from man's best friend, a dog. And dogs don't care if you're rich or poor
    5. JillSaxon
Aww Carl... PEOPLE can't give you real love?

@ Svelmoe There was this comedian who did a whole set about money and happiness. Anyways, one of the lines I ALWAYS laugh at is: "You never see people crying on a WaveRunner."

Edited to make the quote accurate.

Money can't buy you happiness; but it sure makes misery a lot more acceptable.

      Right on the money! haha..

    I don't own a dog that's bad

Having money can make one's life much better and safer ... which in turn can make your life happy. I firmly believe that because I've experienced it.

When my family was in financial drought even our own relatives won't talk to us anymore and now being able to support my family financially in my home country gave me happiness.

Money cannot buy Happiness, but it makes a good down payment for some.

Recent reasearch by Canadian researchers at the University of British Columbiahas shown that you can be happy if you spent that money in gifts and charities.

Money creates an equal amount of happiness and unhappiness. It is neutral.

it doesn't cause happiness in my opinion. It makes certain aspects of your life more managable though. It has to do a lot with our perception of money and how we feel it serves us, what its purpose is.

To me, I don't attain peace of mind from my bank account. When I get money worries i have faith and i take action, then I throw the worry out the window. I live simply and not beyond my means.

Whatever financial situation you are in, i believe we should live with gratitude and realize happiness is a choice and cannot be obtained from an external means.

    AMEN!

May not be able to buy happiness but it sure as heck helps LOL

    Money Can't Buy You Happiness
Ain't that the truth. Tell that to Paul McCartney.
However, money can buy you a one legged pirate...and her name is Heather Mills.

      that is so funny!

If money can't buy happiness, why are we all happy when payday comes?
    1. ekim941
      coz it's Friday.
    2. offendedblogger
So what you're saying is it isn't the money that makes us happy but the beer and hookers?
    3. ekim941
      Not at all.

      I don't drink beer.
    4. MadameX
      Dude, you're in construction.

You're really messing with my stereotypes.
    5. ekim941
      Show me your boobs.

      Is that better?
    6. ekim941
MadameX, So all construction workers drink beer and only work construction because they aren't smart enough to do anything else?

That seems to be the typical stereotype.
    7. MadameX
Ekim, my father made his living in construction all my life, and my first job was cleaning up shingles on roofing jobs. My uncle and cousin own a construction company, and my husband managed a warehouse for a cable construction company. And I have a firm conviction that real men don't wear suits. My generalizations definitely don't come from stereotypes and don't involve not being smart...but in all those years of all those exposures...yeah...I've seen a lot of cheap beer.
    8. ekim941
Yuck, cheap beer is even worse.
    9. offendedblogger
      Good point, ekim.

      Must be an acquired taste

I think there is a certain amount of care and nurturing people need to be happy. Not too many homeless, starving people are real content with their situations.

But then once people get their basic needs met, money is relatively minor. We imagine happiness will come from money, but it usually doesn't.
  17. MadameX
I definitely don't think that money can bring happiness, but the absence of money can be an obstacle to happiness. Not being able to fulfill your obligations is stressful, and I don't know too many people who are happy while getting dozens of calls a day from bill collectors, waiting for the car to get repossessed, and trying to decide whether to buy groceries or keep the utilities on.
    1. Theresa111
      Here, here.
    2. JacobDiv
yep, that is what I was trying to say, but you said it better.
    3. offendedblogger
Exactly. I know poor people and wealthy people and people in between. Believe me, the poor ones are the least happy.
  18. shawie9877
    I agree, carlgalloway!
  19. Dicky22
money can't buy happiness but can make you happy
  20. meanmissy
i agree with you dicky22.. i know of some people though not personally that are happy but they are not that rich...maybe it is all based on the contented life of a person, dont you agree?
  21. mariamichelle
I know plenty of people with money who I wouldn't say were happy. It does solve some problems, but can't it create other ones at times?
