This is a solid American classic, the blending of rib eye steak, grilled onions, savoury cheese, all wrapped up in a tasty roll. Guys love it and it's faster to fix than a regular meal, making a quick supper.

Give it a try... svcooks.blogspot.com/2009/08/philly-cheesesteak.html

Another great looking recipe, SV! I left you a comment. I love PCS's--when I was going to grad school in PA, I used to eat them all the time. They keep you full for a really long time.

That they do! Which is why I usually make them for lunch on the weekend---they leave me feeling too full to sleep if I have one for dinner!

SV-The reports of your self-exile have been greatly exaggerated.

Anything with steak in it is good recipe. And healthy too.

I'm not guaranteeing this to be healthy...lots of carbs and cholesterol in it. But man, it really tastes good!

The sad thing about life is...what tastes good is not always healthy. But what is health when soul is lacking in food?
    3. SweetViolet
you have a point CMF...I don't think your health would be seriously compromised if you had one of these every month or two...and your taste buds would be delighted!

That looks delicious, I do like them with green peppers, that's how they sell them in Tucson, the place that claims to have original PCS, anyway.

I researched this on the internet many years ago when I came up with my version. Seems the original PCS originated in the 1930s and it used rib-eye steak and Provolone cheese on a Hero roll (the ones used for submarine sandwiches). Apparently today you can get them with CheezeWhiz on them (ew!!) even in Philly, so I suppose changing the cheese isn't a major felony! But if you want the taste of the original PCS, it's got to be ribeye and Provolone!

How can you go wrong with a good Philly Cheesesteak? Even in South Africa.
    1. SweetViolet
Yup! With our great South African beef and real Provolone from one of our many Italian delis, I can make great PCSs here in South Africa here!
