Next to the refrigerator, name the most used appliance in your kitchen. In mine it's the microwave and when it died I was lost without it.

    Coffee maker.
    1. timethief
I never use mine. I make only one cup a day and use a Melita drip when I do.
    2. AlexGreat
Same you can do without the rest of them
    3. roguedeals
      Rightfully the first post.
  2. Arcticulates
Dishwasher. Tho the coffee maker comes close!
    1. timethief
You have a dishwasher! Oh my, how I envy you. I wash everything by hand.
    2. markstoneman
Me too, but that is when I listen to public radio. Doing that kind of work in the kitchen is a good thing for me. Maybe I should blog about it after the next time I really get in the zone.
    3. timethief
I also listen to public radio CBC or to college radio when I'm washing dishes. I wonder how many others do the same.
    4. Arcticulates
Ahhhhh Yes, with the little grand-kids over constantly and all they do is eat, eat, eat, and want a drink, my hubby said we need a dishwasher.

I was thinking about my answer and I was thinking that maybe my can opener comes in real close to first.

I had a old army hand can opener for years, but now I have this newfangled can opener (my children insist I get more modernized) I just open cans to see how easy it is. Thank-goodness for hungry grand-kids...
    5. timethief
A power can opener - hoo ya!
    6. lordiwanttobewhole
I love CBC radio talk shows! & I too wish I had a dishwasher!
    1. timethief
Hmmm ... that's right up there on my list too. But I can always use the old kettle on top of the woodstove instead of the electric one.
  3. Hangingonahyphen
It's got to be the stove. The exhaust fan next...
    1. timethief
I can use my woodstove for cooking if I have too. I can also use a campstove and frequently do when the power goes out. I didn't even consider the exhaust fan.
  4. SimplyForties
My big mixer, closely followed by my food processor.
    1. timethief
Wow! You have great equipment. I have a hand cranked old style eggbeater. I also have an ancient mixmaster. I'd love to own a food processor and a juicer.
    2. ShawGirl
I am with you wholeheartedly on the mixer...I have a Kitchen Aid Professional Series 6 stand mixer that I lovingly call Big Red! Since I do a LOT of baking, buying this stand mixer was the best money I ever spent! My food processor is a close third but my second most used kitchen appliance isn't really an appliance, it's my hand crank sifter.
  5. drjay1966
You mean most specifically for kitchen-type stuff, or would bedroom-type uses count as well?
    1. timethief
      @drjay
We are doing kitchen appliances for kitchen uses in this thread. I'm saving the thread for bedroom and bathroom appliances for the weekend. lol
  6. jackstcliveblog
Small kitchen appliances are usually portable.

They can make everyday life easier and more convenient, whether it's cooking food in a college dorm, brewing coffee at the office, or preparing a meal after a busy day. Small appliances include coffee makers, blenders, and food processors as well as mixers, toasters, and can openers.
There are styles and colors to suit every kitchen and a wonderful variety of appliances to cook everything from popcorn to pizzas.
    1. timethief
So which one is your most used one please? And if it's a portable one you use in the bathroom or bedroom let's save sharing that until the weekend when I post another thread, okay? I ♥ the avatar change BTW ... lol
  7. DeadRooster
    Fire extinguisher
    1. timethief
That figures. A hot guy that lacks cooking skills - fire extinguisher ... lol
    2. DeadRooster
Hey, I can't be responsible for every "exploding omelet" that comes along and sets the kitchen ablaze. That's a fairly common event that happens to everyone...right?
    3. timethief
I've never had an omelet explode and I've never had to use a fire extinguisher.
Sheesh ... maybe I'm just not hot stuff like you are, eh?
    4. DeadRooster
"I've never had an omelet explode and I've never had to use a fire extinguisher."

      NOW who's lacking cooking skills...
    5. timethief
I cook only when I have too. I guess maybe I just haven't been as adventurous in the kitchen as you have been
  8. Friday13
Refri-- oh, wait. Then ... stove, I guess.
    1. timethief
      @Friday13
That sounds half-hearted to me. Are you sure?
    2. Friday13
      I'm sure
  9. GabrielGadfly
Toss-up between the microwave and the coffee-maker.
    1. timethief
Ahhh ... so microwave is right up there for you too. I thought it would be a common reply but it hasn't been so far. Go figure.
  10. lulubelleb
Stovetop, but am considering getting a slow cooker. Make lots of soups and stews this time of year. Don't have a microwave at home, but use one at work everyday to heat up my lunch.
    1. timethief
Slow cookers are great. I highly recommend getting one.
  11. jackstcliveblog
People who are dependent on caffeine have breakfast with an old friend - the coffee maker. Every morning you scoop in the coffee, add some water and flip it on. but have you ever wondered what's happening inside. How does the water get from the reservoir over to the coffee grounds in the filter basket? How does everything heat up so quickly, and what on earth is that gurgling noise? Nice.

Can openers is my most used also when lazy to cook, I need this to open Can Food.

Hi, timethief. So my avatar now is ok? I am not a woman or lady.
If it is ok, I am not goin to change it. hehe..
    1. timethief
My can opener is a manual one. I've never had an electric one. It always seemed like a frivolous expense to me ... lol
    2. lulubelleb
I've never had an electric can opener, either. Just didn't see the point. My mother, however, has arthritis in her hands and has been using one for as long as I can remember. To each, her own...
    3. timethief
I can see an electric can opener being a real great thing for anyone with arthritis in their hands.
  12. jackstcliveblog
    Wat? Fire extinguisher? lol.
    Tat's too funny.

Microwave by far, followed by dishwasher.
    1. timethief
That's 3 of us for microwave so far.
And you have a dishwasher too. I'm so jealous
  14. Jeunelle
Has to be my stove...I seldom use the microwave.
I bake all the time so I need my stove.
Eggs in the morning, omelettes, french toast, scones etc.
    1. timethief
The stove is right up there for those who don't have a woodstove like I do.
  15. acousticguitarist
    Frypan

    I make pancakes almost everyday
    1. acousticguitarist
Oh OK, I guess that my fry pan on a gas stove is not an appliance duh???
    2. timethief
Nope. I thought you meant an electric one. I use a cast iron one myself and I &hearts pancakes.
  16. JDh888
my instant ice take making machine - my blood runs iced tea
    1. timethief
Instant ice maker - woo hoo - you must be living the high life. Good for you. lol
    1. timethief
      The microwave group is growing.
  17. CrystalRaven
I hate microwaves, though we do have one, I can just image what all that nuking is doing to us lol.
Tops here is the kettle, don't have an electric, second would be the toaster.
    1. timethief
Toaster would be low on my list. I rarely ever use it but I'd love to have a toaster oven.
    2. legbamel
Mmmm, toast. I love toast. My stove is my most-used appliance, though. I never plan far enough ahead to use a slow cooker.
    3. timethief
      Another vote for stove.
  18. acousticguitarist
You use a microwave?????? I'm shocked

I'm telling the organic community on you
    1. timethief
Boo hissssssssssssss to the nosy people who mind our business for us.
  19. SweetViolet
I am a kitchen appliance aficionado. I probably use my stove top the most (I had a professional-style gas range installed shortly after we moved in), followed by the microwave (I usually nuke the dinner veggies), and then the bread machine (at least 4 loaves per week), and last, the hand mixer (mashed potatoes several times a week). I also have a food processor, slow cooker, steamer, and a massive KitchenAid mixer, electric kettle and toaster, but these are not used as much.

When my microwave died, I was also lost without it. I've had one since '77 had many years of cooking experience before I got my first one, so it was amazing to me when I found myself so lost without the thing! After the fridge and stove, I'd name it the most beloved appliance in the kitchen.
    1. timethief
After the fridge and stove, I'd name it the most beloved appliance in the kitchen.
      Me too.
  20. hatingtherain
the oven/stove or the coffee maker

    or maybe it's the microwave
    1. timethief
It's hard to choose between them but I put microwave first because I can always use the woodstove, and as long as I have boiling water I can Melita a cup of coffee. I grind beans ahead of time because the power frequently goes out here but not usually until January or February. The snow is an unaccustomed event here.
  21. JudithHeartSong
I spent 20 years cooking almost all of the meals for a family of four... in my life now the microwave is essential with my partner's and my busy schedules. No more spending three hours in the kitchen regularly:)
    1. timethief
Well I guess we are in agreement on this one - microwave it is.
  22. jafabrit
    Electric teakettle!
    1. timethief
Ah ha! spoken like a true tea lover. lol
  23. KiefersCorner
We personally don’t use a microwave since the radiation makes the food toxic, but since I cant name a specific appliance can I say my wife?

I use her a lot in the kitchen LOL
    1. timethief
No I don't think your wife qualifies as an appliance but, I did enjoy your sense of humor.
  24. KittyKat53
Fridge but that one requires no effort. I have to make my coffee everyday..so coffee maker.
    1. timethief
Another coffeemaker person - thanks for posting
  25. destinedforwhat
oh the microwave for sure. without it i may starve...i cook only once in a blue moon. and that is only cause i am too lazy to clean up afterwards so i just dont make the mess in the 1st place.
    1. timethief
Another microwave vote. I like to freeze portions that are cooked ahead of time and then nuke them when I'm hungry.
  26. richardcas
    it's the kitchen door handle
    1. timethief
I'm sorry to inform you that the doorknob is not an appliance.
    1. timethief
And another microwave vote is tallied.
  27. Shuttercraft
I live in my photography studio, it is a giant restraint that went out of business. I converted the building into a studio, but I kept the full restraint kitchen as it was when the place was serving hundreds of people.
I probably use the 12 burner stove more then anything.
    1. timethief
Twelve burners! Good grief I can barely cope with four. You must be into cooking in a very big way.
  28. TZY
    Microwave, esp for instant foods.
    1. timethief
      Another microwave vote.
  29. homebase
    cooker (i.e. 'stove')
    1. timethief
      Another stove (cooker) vote.
  30. LGramlich
I'm with you & the microwave. We even had a backup nuker (because of Hurricane Katrina,) but the hubby gave that to his son.
    1. timethief
Woot! I think microwave is going to win when the final talley is taken.
    2. Friday13
If we had a microwave, it'd definitely be my most-used appliance. But it's just not a common appliance here.
    3. timethief
That's interesting. I wonder why they aren't common where you live.
    4. Friday13
They're just not. The stove is where it's at

      (okay, it's a poor country)
  31. amitchopra22
glasses, plates and spoons at my home
    1. timethief
Those are "utensils" and not "appliances".
  32. Shiley
I use my stove the most, can opener, and finally microwave.
    1. timethief
      Another stove vote.
  33. roentarre
For me, it would have to be micro wave! So convinient for a single guy
    1. timethief
      Another microwave vote.
  34. jackpayne
My Vita Mix. I hate most vegetables, so the only way I can get the health benefits from these is to throw them all into this super blender, juice them, and drink my dinner.
    1. Jeunelle
Vita Mix is awesome...I got one of them suckers. Love to juice.
    2. timethief
      Vita mix. Interesting.
    3. hatingtherain
man that's a really good idea
  35. dosox
    Knife..
Being a veggie its pretty helpful..
    1. timethief
A knife is a "utensil" and not an "appliance".
  36. lordiwanttobewhole
I use my slowcooker most often, because its so easy and fool proof!
I ♥ fool proof anything for the kitchen!
    1. timethief
Slow cookers are absolutely awesome. Everyone should have one. They produce delicious one pot no fuss, no muss meals. They keep the flavor in and they tenderize whatever meat you put in them.
  37. foodhere
Microwave. Absolutely. However, in a pinch, a hair dryer can reheat noodles!!
    1. timethief
      Another microwave user.
    1. timethief
I'm sorry but if you check the OP you will see I excluded refrigerators.
  38. wehireu
My stove and my rice cooker. I am afraid of what would happen if I had a microwave...
    1. timethief
      A stove vote.
  39. rmaxwell142
I'd say the stove gets used a lot. That and the dishwasher of course!
    1. timethief
      Another stove vote.
  40. armywife65
My Magic Bullet. We used that thing all the time. I love it! and it really is next to my Fridge on the counter. I can see it from here....oooh! see you got me all worked up now, I gotta go make a protein shake using my Bullet..lol
    1. KittyKat53
LOL I'm sorry but I thought a magic bullet was a vibrator. You can really tell I don't do much in the kitchen.
    2. armywife65
      @KittyKat53
ROTF...LMAO!.too funny,... naw, I got my husband for that.
here's the website for the magic bullet. We stand behind it 100% we've had it for 7yrs and have had no problems what so ever
      check them out: www.buythebullet.com/
    3. timethief
LOL - magic bullet it is.
  41. dosox

    1. timethief
Ahhh ... water heater. Good choice.
  42. cooper
    coffee pot and steamer.
    1. timethief
Another coffeepot vote and the first vote for a steamer.
    1. timethief
      Another microwave vote
  43. aningeniousname
Definitely my electric kettle, I'm not a big one for kitchen gadgets. I have a microwave but never use it (because I think they are dangerous) the only thing I use it for is to time my boiled eggs I put a cup of water in it and set it for 2 and a half mins so I know when my eggs are done.
    1. legbamel
That's very, very strange. Have you considered getting rid of the microwave and picking up an egg timer?
    2. aningeniousname
Well I didn't buy it to time eggs, my ex bought it because she was as good in the kitchen as she was in the bedroom.
I would throw it out but it was quite expensive and being a tight Yorkshireman I can't bring myself to throw it out, so I compromise and use it as a 200 quid egg timer.
When, sometime in 2035 it finally stops timing eggs I will then buy myself a nice little egg timer.
    3. legbamel
Ah, way to repurpose something! I'm sorry to have brought up such bad memories of your ex.
    4. timethief
Okay so that's a vote for an electric kettle.
  44. lailahmorid
    Microwave. Hee Hee
    1. timethief
      And another microwave vote.

  46. armywife65
And we have a winner folks...MICROWAVE! *applause*
    1. timethief
Hey don't call it yet. Who knows a support group for whatever could suddenly inundate the thread. lol
  47. Sylvia
    The microwave and J-cloths.
    1. timethief
J cloths aren't appliances Sylvia so a microwave vote it is.
  48. gearsofrock
    Coffee Maker and Dishwasher!
    1. timethief
Another coffeemaker vote and another pampered person who owns a dishwasher - I'm so jealous.
  49. JanelleV
i'd have to say the oven and the microwave..
    1. timethief
      Oven and microwave duly noted.
  50. MadMadMargo
My electric wok - hands off everyone!
    1. timethief
Electric wok - cool! I'd love to own one.
  51. PetLvr
    3-way tie for our household...

Coffee Maker / Dishwasher / Microwave.

    Runner Up:
    Toaster and Coffee Bean Grinder
    1. armywife65
      @PetLvr--

    1. timethief
      @siralmo
Another stove vote noted. Score? I thought I'd tally it at the very end but if you'd like to do a sub-total please go for it.
  53. Jeunelle
I soooo wanted a George Foreman Grill but I didn't get one for Christmas.
I'll see if I can get one cheaper on Ebay.
    1. timethief
One vote for a George Foreman grill noted.
  54. AlexGreat
I guess the phone (for ordering takeaways) should rate as more useful than the microwave and the dishwasher as it makes them obsolete
    1. timethief
Lol A telephone is not an appliance so that's a microwave vote.
  55. jackpayne
If you've got a microwave and a Vita-Mix that's all you need. Throw in a vending machine and a large garbage can and you've got an efficient kitchen.
    1. timethief
Microwave vote - vitamix already noted earlier.
  56. shytjan
    Electrical kettle for sure, and

    Slow cooker.
Use to cook lots of soup and chinese herbs. Life is just made so easy.
    1. timethief
      Electric kettle it is.

    1. timethief
One vote for washing machine. I assume you mean dishwasher.
  62. Emergiblog
Coffee grinder (followed by coffee pot!)
    1. timethief
One more vote for coffee grinder.
  63. Theresa111
The Kitchen Sink. My Kitchen Aid Mixer helped me make these.

skdd.wordpress.com Come and see my kitchen stuff. Yummy!

Disclaimer tt: This is related to the discussion.
    1. timethief
As far as I'm concerned a sink is not an "appliance" because it's not mechanical in nature. However, technically it does meet the definition.

a device or machine for performing a specific task, esp. one that is worked mechanically or by electricity stoves, irons, etc. are household appliances
    2. Theresa111
The kitchen sink is an appliance, because without it you couldn't keep things sanitary.
  64. LynneaUrania
I vote for the garbage disposal. I use it every time before preparing a meal and run it when I do the dishes. Since I use the stove or oven for perhaps 2/3 of meals and toaster for perhaps 1/4 of them, it stands to reason that it's my most used appliance after the refrigerator.

And to make sure I don't bring my troubles at home, I pretend to put them in the garbage disposal when I come in too! They seem to be smaller the next day at any rate.
  65. timethief
One vote for garbage disposal. Thanks
    1. timethief
      @Mr Cheesgeburger
Griddle - all the better to fry you with
  66. SpiritualBloggers
I don't have a garbage disposal :-( Electric kettles are popular in OZ. We make both tea and coffee with ours and its quite a busy little device!
    1. siralmo
what other kettle would you use?

only other one i can think of is a cast iron kettle
    2. timethief
      Electric kettle it is.
  67. SpiritualBloggers
    @ Siralmo

I grew up in America with metal kettles that you boil on the stove top; they whistle when they reach the boil...
  68. Lanix1436
Definitely a toss-up between the microwave and stove.
    1. timethief
      One more for microwave.
    1. timethief
Appliance = a device or machine for performing a specific task, esp. one that is worked mechanically or by electricity stoves, irons, etc. are household appliances.

      Sorry but "wife" doesn't count.

    kitchen appliance?
    Whats that?
    1. timethief
      Lol ... simple living, eh?
  70. Scribblerchick

    1. timethief
      @bsilva
You confused me. lol I'm thinking that you put stove first so stove it is.
  78. girlzstylin

Ah ha! Another microwave vote. Thanks.

    Stove without a doubt

      A vote for stove (cooker).

Washing machine which is being repaired at the moment. Am amazed it has lasted as long as it has considering how we hammer it. There's only two of us but because of our respective occupations we seem to get thru a lot of clothes.

Next up is the dishwasher (next on the repair list). Oh how I hate washing up by hand. I realise not everyone has this luxury, when I was a kid it was my major chore - much preferred gardening!
    1. timethief
      Washing machine it is.

I'd have to say it's a tie between the stove/oven and the coffee maker. Both seem to be running non stop

You said stove first so that's what I'm recording.

      That's a kettle vote.

Oops! You have to choose another one as I excluded refrigerator in the OP.

    Kettle, and after that, kettle
    1. timethief
      Kettle it is.

Formula mixer... well at least that is what it was marketed as. I find it makes frothy chocolate milk, mixes coffee & ingredients, and mixes powdered drink mix better than anything. It is sad, but I use that think at least 10 times a day
