These days we are all looking for carbon neutral solutions to the global warming problem.

Motorola is going green. The company has announced the W233 candy bar handset at the 2009 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show.

There's nothing special about this phones, except the fact that the plastic housing is made out recycled plastic water bottles and it's the world's first carbon neutral phone.

Discussion question: Are you aware of any other new carbon neutral innovations?

OMG, I want it. I have never heard about new technology and thought, "I want it."
    I want it.
I have vermicompost (worms) in my closet because you can't use the soil where I live (too high altitude.)
    But that's not technology.
Oh, oh, now I want skis made of this plastic. Anybody got a hookup for that?

I thought this was really a great innovation too. In Canada we have boards for fencing and for noise barriers on highways that are also made from recycled plastic.

More and more we are finding recycled plastic slabs for use as California Sidewalks. They still tend to be expensive, so they are turning up in more affluent areas like Glendale or Burbank.

Wow, that's neat. I refuse to own a cell phone though

I'll have to keep an eye out for green tech stuff.

I crochet and just switched to using a yarn that is 20% made of recycled plastic bottles also. Every 10 skeins of Simply Soft Eco yarn by Caron saves 6 plastic bottles from America's landfills.

The reality side of me screams out, "So it was only produced by 80% nonrenewable waste?"

6 whole bottles? Please, some yuppie in a beamer can replace that in an hour..what's next, buying carbon credits from Al Gore?

Y'know what, I think I'll just duck out of this topic before I get into any more trouble.

I totally think a HUGE rethinking of what we use and how to reduce and change it needs to happen. There's no reason we should be using as many plastic bottles as we are. The towns in my county came together to stop bottled water from being used in the town. They have tap water. Which make sense since all the damned water says "mountain spring" on it and crap and we're in the mountains where the stupid springs are. There are things like that which can and should be done, but I like too the idea of innovations added into our purchases.
