Some of the international feminist associations are trying to get women's rights redefined to human rights.
Apparently, calling it a "movement for women's rights" makes the whole issue easier to dismiss. And these associations are having an uphill battle getting that redefinition passed in the UN. What's your take on it?

I certainly hope it's an uphill battle. Human rights, by definition, are rights due to every human being. There's no reason for a gender distinction except political agenda.

Agreed.. that's what I was thinking. Once again as much as I don't care for the "whole feminist" movement I am a product of it. But to consider what it used to be and how far we have come. Especially in this country I would think there would be more support. In Italy women could vote before they could here. That was shocking when I read that tidbit of information. I just wonder how much of it is really politics and how much of it is religion.

This is, so but the original statement is not exactly true anyway.
Due to the fact that woman in many third world countries are used politically in times of war ( rape as an act of war is a fact just ask the many woman in the Congo, and Darfur ), not to mention some of the other horrors which go unpunished - in countries where stoning is a common punishment for female adultery and where human trafficking of women is not punished as other severe crimes would be and so on - by taking a firmer stance and punishing the c rimes against woman worldwide accordingly ( they are not punished in the same way as other crimes - if punished at all ) they hope to make punishment for these horrors more common. By doing that, they hope to curtail the violence against woman.
It's not a bunch of feminist trying to redefine anything it is women trying to find a way to curtail the violence against women worldwide.-
Not sure if I would say the original statement is not right that is an issue they are discussing and trying to promote for many years. Here are some links

My comment regarding the "feminists" it was geared towards the "feminists" women who told me about it. They march they chant and they make change happen. They are some of my greatest friends, so I am not sure why you would assume when I said a bunch of feminist that I was not supportive of them.
Speaking of third world countries I have lived in them I am very aware of how women are treated and I know about the horrors they face on a daily basis. I still think ALL humans regardless of gender or color should be treated with dignity, and kindness... under the human rights NOT just women and I think that is the point I wanted to make.
