What do you think? Should movie remakes just stop or is it a good idea to redo an old theme to make it better?

Sometimes they can ruin classic movies!

Depends on how long it's been since the original, who's directing, the casting, and whether the original could've been better or not.

agreed, there are there are to many factors to just say remakes of movies are 'good' or 'bad.'

I think it really depends on the film. There are classic movies, like Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, which really didn't need to be updated.

But then if you happen to see films like the original "Ocean's 11" with Sinatra, you can see where there was potential to update it for modern audiences, and have it work.

My concern about movie remakes these days is largely a name of a known franchise seems to be being used in place of having to come up with a new idea. It's about the money, I suppose. Producers feel there's a built in audience there, if it's a remake.

I'd like to see them remake Jaws.

Only, set it on land this time. And make all of the grizzled old fishermen baseball players, instead. Also, they should be girls. And change the timeline to somewhere around World War II.

And get Tom Hanks to play the shark. That would be sweet.

I would guess that at least 75 per cent of remakes are good which to me is a good number. For instance I am waiting for the new remake of "When the earth stood still". The trailers look great. Soon I hope to do a gathering of downloadable referrals for people to watch free movies online at www.jdp3.webnode.com

I'd say they're almost always lousy....

One of the few exceptions was Bill Murray's unfairly maligned version of the Razor's Edge--way better than the Tyrone Power version.

It depends on what you mean by "a good idea". It's a good idea for the people who make millions of dollars in the process. Often they're a disappointment, but really, it's just a movie. I have a hard time seeing one telling of a story as being so sacred that it pre-empts any others, ever.
